Hi, i turned my camera on after a long time of not using it and it turned on normally, the camera seems to be stuck somehow it doesnt focus or zoom in/out and the numbers (E:61:10) are flashing on the top right hand side of the LCD screen, is there any way of fixing this? any help would be very greatly appreciated, thanks, Dave
After reading other solutions on this same error message, I decided to follow the advice of one that did not require taking it to the shop and having it repaired. I hit the barrell against the table with two good whacks, and it the error message disappeared. The zoom now works and so does my auto focus and manual focus. Problem solved, believe it or not. I held my breath because I was scared I would break it, but now it's fixed.
Guys i am having DSC -H3 I also had same problem and have fixed it only by "hitting method" Thanks for the good way to solve.
Guys sony products are not working in climatic conditions .so dont recommend to U R friends
this solution is good for try....100% is working normally
I have the dcr sr45 and haad the same problem, read this and said, it sounds stupid, but makes sense, I'm going to try it....it friggin worked! thanks, can you fix my washer too?
I did the same and it worked too!! Thank you
Yep, just smacked from side with my hand and power off and on and it works!
Funny it is now fixed. Thanks a lot!

Belive or not, the smacking method works ! I have just tried on my TRV-22 and the zoom is working fine now ! I should have tried it before my daughter's birthday, which is now very badly recorded (no zoom or image adjust), but I didn't, too bad! P.S. My smack wasn't very strong. Just a couple of light hits near the lens barrel.
Seriously smacking it really does work.LOL Just a few slight smacks near the lens barrel and voila it works now. Thanks to the ***** slapper it works lol
I had an E61.00 error on my Sony DSC-P100 camera. I tried the bumping on hard surface . I bumped it bottom edge down at the lens end about five times with increasing hardness of bump and then turning off and on again after each try. After about five times E: 61.00 error had gone. I can hardly believe it.
It really did work.
Yes guys got the same problem on my sony DCR-DVD- 101. It really worried me, but having read your smacked solutions, at first i was hesitant to do it you know how expensive this gadgets are. But no choice i have to try something as i need it by the folowing day. Smacked the cam n my table againts the back of the battery pack, and it really worked. I guess sony company will do something about this, its the same case that i stock my dvd cam for a long period of time then i decided to use it again, that's when the error appeared E:60:00 . Just hang on guys and do some sony smacking.... I really works Thanks a lot guys
I too got the infamous E:61:10 message and tried the smacking method as many others had suggested. I was about to give up after about 25 smacks but after the 26 smack the error message disappeared and the camera is able to take pictures again.
Same problem with a T7, but since the lens is completely internal the "bang it" technique did not seem to work very well. So I opened up the casing and re-seated the lens assembly and that solved the problem. Its pretty easy to do, 8 screws, remove the memory stick and battery, leave the battery door open and flip the front cover up and off. Then you have full access to the lens assembly. Just be careful of the flex wires. Hope this helps!
Hi,
I had the same problem (E61:10) and I used a Multi-Purpose Duster (compressed air) to clean the mechanisms. Apparently that error just means there is a jam in the focusing gears and once I did this cleaning my camera worked like a charm!
Good luck
I have a sSONY Mavica MVC FB71 still camera and had the same error code.. E:60:10 ..a few sharp raps aon my computer desk put it back in order..I contacted SONY Support and they wanted $205 to repair..Nice savings for me!
After reading this thread I hit my DCR-SX33E with my hand a few times. Didn't work. Than against a stone and iron table. 3-4 times medium hard (just a little less than where you are afraid to break the ******). Works like a charm.
I have a dcr-sr47 just got it couple months. second time i used it i got an error E:61:10. Found this site startin whakin front and back and barabing barabum. problem solved. Dont forget to reset after bangin. Enjoy zoomin.
I tried the take it apart and clean it .. No good.. ( please don't attempt unless you have another camera. :-)
Place a towel on a hard surface, and grasp the camera in the palm of your hand with the display screen facing downward and smack... one medium strength... all was fine and now I am using like I did when it was new.....
Boss handed me a sony dsc-p10 cyber shot camera
wouldn't focus or open. Two firm wacks later. you guessed it
it works great! thanks
This method of whacking really works. I was trying my gently tapping it on the sides and back on my DSC-p52 but then got frustrated soon. The last option i hit it hard on my book and BOOM i am good :) Happy zoomin... abhishek
Ok guys, ...... copy and pasted my reply from another site......... Lol, Ah man, what a joke. Typical Sony ****. I'm sick and tired of this company. Always the same deal. They are always whining. Finally threatened to cause a stink in the shop and I guarranteed them they wouldn't be selling many cameras from that shop that day. They kept it for like 3 days and when I got it back it was fine. Now, 3 wks later I have the same problem again. They make great cameras but their service sux the big one. Always have. Anything that goes wrong takes like 2 to 3 months. This is precisely why I bought a Dell computer. At least I have some guy show up the next business day if there's a problem. Will never buy a Sony computer again. Their computer service is even worse. Edit///....... Ok, fixed the sucker with some good whacks. Here is a support site that goes over the problems with this message........ http://www.fixya.com/support/t129748-sony_cybershot_dsc_s50_not_focusing Same deal, give it a few good whacks and you're back in the black. Unbelievable. Too funny.
I'll be d...I did the smack thing and belive it or not it worked..wao
I have the latest camcorder CX505VE....and believe it...the smack method worked like a charm.....just got to be careful....as soon as you find that picture is fine.....do a reset and the error is gone.....thanks ya'll
I just experienced the same issue. E:61, no focus, lens stuck. I reset the camera, no change. Then I followed the others here and smacked the lens barrel twice with two fingers. It worked. Incredible. Thanks!
I have a DCR-HC32 Sony HandyCam...there was a E:61:10 message, the focus and zoom failed to work...i.e. the image was blurry With the unit turned off, I gave it one firm smack against the palm of my hand (smacked the back of the unit where the battery pack and optical lens/eyepiece are located). When I turned the unit back on it worked perfectly.
First, I took to repair and they told me I would cost 70% of a new camera, so I better get another one. Then, started smackingand it Does work! First I got a 61:10 message, after some smacks I got to 61:00 and finnaly to the camera working perfectly.
Sony DSC-707 had this problem after taking it apart - solution was to remove right-side panel of lens barrel (including hot shoe plates), and re-seat the visible ribbon cables. Note that some have a brown lever bar that needs to be lifted up first, and then replaced. Also note some look like they have this bar, but don't need to be raised!
On the same model - if your flash isn't working, there's a buried ribbon cable that might be at fault. Careful though - I think mine was partly torn, and I ripped it the rest of the way off being too aggressive. Not a biggie since it wasn't working anyway....
Freaking Awsome ... I just got my P200 working back with wacking and smacking !!! :) Thank you Guys !!
Thx a lot guys... The "sony smack" really works... My friend dropped the cam when he was to take a pic of me and my date at a dinner... I was scared, and didn't know what to do until I came to this site...At first it disappeared, but came back after putting it off and on, the I did the hard smack on a towel, and it works well.. I have put it in and off 15 times already, seems like there's no sign of it coming back again.. The only other problem is that the zoom does not work well for very close pictures, and I love to shoot in macro... But anywyas, thanks a lot for the help...cheers.. :)
Apparently whacking works.I gently whacked these sides:
1. Where the battery is
2. Side of camera where the cable connects
3.very gently, the lens barrel itself (by the side)
The Fonz manuver works. Omg.
Yes, January 2011, Sony dsc-t200wife dropped it, had the error message, about 4 light to medium smacks on the table and its fixed, you could hear the mechanism trying to focus when the error was there, now its loosed it somehow and saved us buying a new camera, thanks Internet, thanks guys posting on here about it, go the smack!!!!

My T-9 has the same error. *** started when the camera fell in on the beach. it got all sandy. i tried smacking it but it doesnt work, now it vibrates everytime i turn it on. arghh how?
Ok, at first I was skeptical but the solution actually did work. After banging on the camera for several minutes and at a pretty hard rate I decided this solution wouldn't work but on my last attempt I took the battery out tapped the camera twice on both sides and then put the battery back in and turned the camera on and the error message was gone! Hoo Ray!
I have DSC - T1
With my error massage E:61:10 helped smacking/knocking with machine by the table. (first I opened the machine and cleaned everything, than I tried small smacking near lenth - it didnt help....). Poměrně velký rány foťákem o stůl....
Worked here too dsc p200
Read this solution on a site, and thought it must be a con. When I found the 3rd site with this on, I thought I would give it ago. 2 firmish smacks into the palm of my hand on the lens barrel, not so hard that it was likely to do more damage, turned it on and it works! Still a bit sceptical - don't know how long it will last for
I have dsc-T7 sometimes the shots are fuzzy and Cyan color is present on all objects borders, like alot of abberations. the solution is: turn the camera Off, shake it in your hand hardly and turn on again. VOILA! Its working again. I tried to disassemble it and check what is wrong but I cant find anything for this moment
Turn the camera off and give it two smacks and WA-LA the error message is gone. I started off with two pretty light smacks on the back of the camera and worked my way up to what I would consider two medium hits with a power down in between each double hit. It only took three attempts...but I was being pretty gentle in the beggining.

The lens you are talking about has either:
1)a faulty diaphragm mechanism ( lens stays closed at f 22 or f 16 when you attach it to the camera instead of opening fully as it should ) . or
2) the lens is fine but the diaphragm coupling mechanism inside mirror box ( on the left hand side if viewed from the front ) is not engaging the lens properly so that your lens stays fully closed ( F 22 /16 ) : because diaphragm stays fully closed image in viewfinder appears v. dark.
Solution ? have a camera technician take a look but my guess is that the diaphragm needs cleaning and it should not cost you more than $ 80 bucks.

I'm sorry to say that you'll probably be able to replace the 6MP camera with a better one for less than the cost of repair, even if attempting the repair yourself.

error code E61:10 flashing, zoom is stuck, won't take a picture and lcd screen is very blury
My DCRDVD108 is not focusing and I get Error message E:61:11. I at first had E:61:10. help!
me too, sony dsc-t70. e:61.10. I was dubious about trying such a primitive solution, we call this method the 'american wrench' in ireland but it worked after about 4 light taps on a hard surface. I think some sand or something blocked the lens
sony cybershot DSC-P30 error message E:61:10 (zoom focus doesn't)
suggested fix, reset, alternatively smack camera lightly on knee
i had same problem (E:61:10)..
Vielen Dank
