Using Acer X223W as a second screen, if I touch the 'e' button it aligns everything 2" too far left - stuff is off screen and I have a black bar on the right. I don't seem to be able to reset or realign to use the full screen without losing stuff. It happened once before and eventually it resolved - but I don't remember how and I'm not sure it's anything I did!
My Acer X223W auto-aligns my screen 2?

I was having this exact same issue. I held down the 'e' button and let it re-auto config and it seemed to clear up the problem.
SOURCE: acer x191w monitor background is moved to the right with about 2inches of black on left side.
I tried this and it still does not fix my problem. I went into Menu and hit reset by mistake and that totally screwed up my monitor. Now the left side gets cutoff and no matter what I change the resolution to it does not fix it.
Whjat should I do?

It would seem, somehow, your graphics driver was corrupted. The only thing to do is re-install graphics drivers. These can be found with a quick Google Search: CLICK ME
The first link, to DriversCollection.com, looks promising. This one is for Windows Vista or XP, but you need to specify on the tabs near the top of the page. Make sure you download the correct driver, as this page includes other drivers. You're looking for "Graphics Driver" [Vista] or "Video Driver" [XP].
Hope this works for you.

You need to change the monitor type. If you open the display settings and then setting tab-advanced-monitor you see a properties button. Click that and then the driver tab on the new window. What you need to do is go to Acers website und get the "INF" or driver file for your monitor. download and save this file. Then go back to the drivers window and click the reinstall drivers button and then point it towards the file you downloaded. This file lets windows know what settings the monitor can use. After that is installed and you go back to the settings window you should find that the allowed display resolutions have changed. You should be able to change it to one the monitor displays properly now.
