My ps3 has purple lines about 8" wide going up across the screen, and the coloring in the background is greenish. Also, there is a weird electronics buzz noise that has never come out that is now. Just woke up one morning and it was like this. What do I have to do to get it fixed?
The graphics generator isn't working properly. Perhaps you have a problem with the power supply; that could cause strange noises. I suspect one or more burned-out electrolytic capacitors. A good electrolytic capacitor has a flat-topped cylindrical case, but a bad one may have the top domed outward by excessive internal pressure.
Electrolytic capacitors in the sizes typically used in low-voltage electronics are usually low-priced; most are under US $1. I recommend Panasonic FR series capacitors for high ripple current tolerance, long life and decent high frequency characteristics. You can use capacitors with a higher voltage rating and temperature rating, but not lower. The capacitance ("uF") must be the same. Make sure the physical size fits the board and isn't too tall to close the case. Never, never install the capacitor backwards (check the orientation of the stripe on the old one before removing, and compare with the mark that's usually printed on the board under the part). A backwards capacitor will be ruined rather quickly when power is turned on.

I had the same problem and i tried what you tried and no result. Came to find out it was my tv. Depending on your tv you have to programe it just like you had to program your ps3. And if that doesnt work its your monster cord. Ask some one at best buy to help their pretty good.
SOURCE: PS3 Wont load system menu
This is usually caused by one of two things:
1) If the wave is still moving but you do not get a menu, then it is most likely the hard drive is having problems. Try taking it out and turn on the system to see if it continues past the wave screen...then you will know for sure.
2) If the wave is not moving (frozen) on the screen, then it is probably a problem with the GPU and will need to be serviced.
If it is under warranty, I would send it in. Taking out the hard drive will not void the warranty, but taking apart the console will.....Hope this helps...

Contact Sony and tell them the problem. As long has youve had the playstation3 for under one year and have not touched the warranty seal at the side of the playstation then you can have your old playstation3 replaced.

well i don't think it's the tv because i hooked up an XBOX to it and it looked fine, i also don't think it's the cords because i tried HD cables and the regular cables that came with and the same result with both...
