Its a bad DMD chip. Seems this is a common problem with the PK-301's sadly. Mine is out of warranty and a new chip runs about $180.

SOURCE: Help! Our Optoma DLP

There is a lense behind the main focus lense that's causing this. Flakes of the colored tint are coming off causing white light to shine through. If you look at your projection, you can see black spots as well, these being the flakes that have re-located themselves. I dug into mine deep enough to diagnose this, to actually replace the little lense would be a little tricky. The unit has to be mostly disassembled. Also I haven't been able to locate a vendor who sells the part. Optoma wants you to send it in so they can do the repair, and won't part w/ these component level parts.

SOURCE: I have a Optoma HD

as greg instruction, it is very detail,

usually, white dots problem is reason of the DMD. perhaps the manufcaturer can't directly and singly sell a parts for end user, they always let you send broken machine to their repair store, then ask for high repair cost.

actually, optoma HD67 projector with 1280*720 pixels, so i think you should buy a 1272-6038B DMD chips, if you need further help, please freely contact me again,

Optoma PK301 lost a color

it is not correlated with bulb
1,the color starts to go out, it become the white and black, the color is disappear.
2,then,the projector running off after only a few minutes,
it is a general issue:the inductor need to be cleaned
Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol to clean the inductor.
the inductor (Sensing element),is near to the Color Wheel.
the industor : is a black little element,as little as 3 sesame seeds

Hi, I have a projector Optoma EP7155 and it appear white and black spot like dead pixel, I would like to know where I can buy a DMD chip with the CCD and how much it will cost. Thank you

global projectors is one source. You need to find out from Optoma the chip you need or take apart the machine and look at it. From China they run about 200 bucks. I've only done Mitsubishi so far.

I copied a presentation to my Optoma PK301 Pico Projector and at the end of my slide show it started to appear some type of a blur at the screen, this blur has a shape of my first page of presentation and...

Did you let the projector sit with that slide on for a while? If so, what you have is called burn-in and it is when the image gets kinda locked into the LCD, and it will show up as the LCD get warmer. If you still have a warranty, I would return it for a new one, and make sure that the images used on it don't remain fixed for a long period of time. Hope this helps!

My optoma is projecting white spots onto the screen. They seem to just appear. Some have began by 'sparkling' for a while and then they stay white perminantly.

if it is a DLP projector then the DMD on the engine is likely bad or the main board is bad. The white things are pixels.
