My Stanley was running fine and died one day with no luck. I checked everything, well, so I thought. After setting for a year my uncle and I pulled off the gas tank and found the fuse beside the solenoid was bad. Replaced that and boom with a jump off mower fired up and ran until head gasket blew lol.

SOURCE: My craftsman 15.5HP kohler riding mower turns over

Try cleaning or better yet, replacing the spark plug. Depending on age and how your tractor was maintained, there are other possible causes.

  • Gummed up fuel system
  • dirty fuel filter
  • defective or misaligned armature/magneto (part that causes your plug to spark, igniting the air/fuel mixture, thus starting the engine)
  • throttle linkage/cable problems
  • low oil level. Some Kohler engines use a low oil shut down sensor which won't allow the engine to run or start to avoid internal damage.
  • Mechanical engine problems

SOURCE: my westwood ride on mower, model 2012 wont start.

Could be a few things, First, you say it's getting fuel, but is the fuel fresh? It may have water in it and act like your engine. Did this problem just start happening? Did you happen to ride over something that may have sheared the key on the flywheel? This would throw the timing off on the engine. If you can try to start it while spraying gas into the carb throat and it keeps running, then it could just be a dirty caburetor or a misadjusted carb float. Good luck, Bill

I have a toro riding mower with a 21 horse power kohler motor that wont start even with ether. I tested the plug and I am getting spark. I am getting fuel to the carburetor as well.

for it to run you need fire fuel and compression. you say you have fire. if you spray starting fluid in the carburetor then you should have fuel. pull the plug out and check the compression. sounds like a valve or valve seat is to blame.

Wont go when warm

If you mean it won't start after the mower gets hot, that is usually a fire or coil issue, maybe even coil adjustment. You have to check for fire and adequate fuel as soon as it happens.

Craftsman riding mower starts rides a few minutes then stops

Make sure that when you check the oil that the mower has sat I say for at least 5mins. Your mower might have an oil sencer. If not I think it might be the coil gettin hot and shorting out.
