Pfaff hobbylock will not run

Hi, I have a hand me down pfaff hobbylock 799 serger. The power comes on but the hand wheel will not turn, nor will the machine run. I've looked for a broken needle or something else obvious but no luck. Thoughts? Thanks!

your needle bar has been pushed up and is out of adjustment. You need to take off the side cover, there should be a screw on the back of your machine holding it on. Remove this screw, and remove the cover. You may have to remove the light assembly to reach the screw on the needle bar. Once you can see the needle bar, rotate the handwheel until you can see the screw on the needle bar. Loosen this screw SLIGHTLY until you can turn the needle bar. Hold and rotate the needle bar back and forth as you push down slightly. This will lower the bar.Lower it about 1/4 inch. Adjust the needles by turning the bar so that they are straight across. Tighten the needle bar screw so that the bar doesn't move. Turn the handwheel to see if the threads will be picked up. If not, adjust until they are. Tighten the needle bar screw tightly, reinstall the side cover ,and tighten the screw. Change your needles.Rethead and sew.

The needles are changed by inserted the hex wrench into what looks to be holes on the front and left side where the needles go into the machine.I'm not sure what size the hex wrench is but it's pretty small. From the manual,
"Removing Needle: Unplug the machine. Turn the handwheel counterclockwise to raise the needle bar to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp with the allen wrench and pull the needle out." and
"Inserting needle: When the neddle bar is at the highest position, insert a new needle in the needle holder, making sure that the groove of the needle faces you. Push the needle as far up as it will go and tighten the needle clamp screw." "Removing Needle: Unplug the machine. Turn the handwheel counterclockwise to raise the needle bar to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp with the allen wrench and pull the needle out."

The machine takes DB x 1, or 1738 needles, and a size 14 needle is recommended.

Hope this helps!

Pfaff Hobbylock 788 sewing machine locked up. Has power, won't go. Hand wheel locked. Ideas?

Force the handwheel in the normal direction of travel. You can't break it. The once it breaks free, remove the needle and run it 15 seconds at full speed. If it happens again you need the timing re-done.

I dont know how to thread it, the hobbylock796 serger

Pfaff has the manual for the Hobbylock 796 on their site, http://www.pfaff.com/Support-and-Updates/Support . Use the drop-down menu to find the Hobbylock. The current link to the manual is http://www.pfaff.com/SiteMedia/PFAFF/Products/Machines/Support-manuals/Hobbylock_794_796-manual-EN.PDF . See pages 7 - 11 for the threading diagrams for a 4-thread double overedge seam. See page 17 for the changes needed for a 3-thread seam. One of the generic threading videos for sergers may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrqHC2CNjVI . There's also one for the Pfaff Hobbylock 786: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOZ-djsXdhQ .

I hope these help.

I need a video on how to thread a pfaff hobbylock 4842 serger

Pfaff has a video on threading the Hobbylock 4842 here: http://www.pfaff.com/mediafiles/threading_guide/index_en.html . You need Adobe Flash Player available on your browser. Enter the tutorial, the link is below the Quick Help paragraph. Then choose the correct machine (from the links across the top). Then use the drop-down menu to choose the stitch that you will be sewing for the appropriate threading video. Then click on the appropriate thread (below the video window) to see how to thread that section of the serger. (For two-thread stitches, you will see two options are greyed out.)

I hope this helps.

Pfaff hobbylock 4842 serger - how to thread

here is a manual:

PFAFF hobbylock 4842 Instruction Manual

Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the machine. Also, thread each thread in the ORDER specified or your machine will most likely never stitch correctly (usually, the upper looper first, lower looper next, and then the needles).

Hobbylock 797 how to thread

The hobbylocks all thread in much the same fashion.  There is a diagram for a four thread hobbylock on this website.  It would be better if you found a Pfaff dealer to show you as it is quite complicated.

http://www.pfaffmachines.co.uk/overlock/pfaff-hobbylock-2-overlocker.htm

Once you have it threaded, always cut the old threads at the spool and knot new ones on and pull through.  You will have to thread the needles as the knots will not pass through but it does save an awful lot of frustration when needing new colours on the spools.
