Whirlpool GH5184XPS-7 microwave oven dead, no power.

Hi, I have a Whirlpool GH5184XPS-7 microwave oven. It's around 2.5 years old. Two days before it was turning off after 2-3 secs, giving F7 error. I tried couple of times to turn ot on and after 5-6 attempts, the microwave died, no power and no clock. I thought, it could be because of blown fuse, do I replave the main 20A fuse which is behind the control panel. The power came back, I could set the clock but as soon as I started it, immediately the fuse blow out. What could be the issue? Thanks.

    Thanks John.

Do you have step-by-step procedure to open unit and how to test magnetron or the inverter board?

    Thanks,

The problem is in the magnetron or the inverter board.

    Unplug microwave, reomove top, {several screws} if you have a digital meter set it to ohms, remove one connector from the magnetron and put the test leads across the too points, a good reading should be well below 1 ohm, if no reading can be obtained the magnetron is open, {this a rough test not conclusive}

SOURCE: whirlpool gh5184xps over-the-counter microwave no power

There is a high voltage fuse in the unit attatched to the high voltage capacitor, it is the most common problem for microwaves not working. Also check the protective diode, the high voltage capacitor as well as the transformer if the fuse is ok. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Kenmore Micro/Oven fuse keeps blowing

Disconnect the connector to the primary winding of the high voltage transformer. Put a new fuse . If the fuse is not blowing the problem may be in the secondary side of the high voltage transformer. Chek the highvoltage diode, capacitor, magnetron respectively. you can also check the primary winding of the low voltage transformer.

Locating reset button on my microwave

To my knowledge none have a reset button or circuit breaker. If the unit is total dead there will be (has to be) a fuse inside the unit.

The keypad control board may be the problem, or the inverter board if 7 years old or less, cost should be considered.

But your correct model # is: GH5184XPS4

F7 Power to magnetron
interrupted
1. Check the door, hinge and cavity front alignment. Adjust as needed.
2. Check the operation of all interlock switches.
3. To check the over-temperature protection for the magnetron, unplug
microwave oven or disconnect power.
4. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.
5. If this solves the problem, check the cooling fan for proper operation or
blockage.
6. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
7. Check resistance of the magnetron thermostat. It should be close to
0 ohms. If necessary, replace magnetron thermostat.
8. Check that the control cable to the 1100 watt inverter is correctly connected
to plug P2 on the display PCB. If necessary, adjust or reconnect.
9. If interlock switches operate correctly, replace 1100W inverter.
10. If problem persists, replace electronic control.
11. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
