Please refer to the beep error codes for your work station here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ws670/en/ug_en/advtrbl.htm#wp1058075

Usually a 10 second beep is an issue with RAM not detected/installed or an issue with CPU

Listen to the pattern of beeps, or look at the back of the computer to see the pattern of the diagnostic lights ( 4 lights just under the keyboard/mouse connectors) and check out this site to see what they mean:

Unfortaintly if you have resetted the CPU but still having this issue then most likely the problem is with the CPU. Note you will want to replace the heatsink and fan as well. In addtion info know for sure that you had a thermal event (IE the system majorly over heating) it is possible that the motherboard is damaged as well.

If you are getting no video at all, then we can use the diagnostic LEDs and the power LED to help determine the failure.

SOURCE: I have a broken Dell Precision 470 Workstation.

sounds like a motherboard failure.
Basic troubleshooting, disconnect all external connections except power, see if indications change, if no go remove all expansion cards see if any change, if no go disconnect all drives see if any change. If none, then motherboard.
If at any step you get a change in indications, then see if you can isolate the faulty item

"A possible VRM 1 failure has occurred"

VRM stands for Voltage Regulator Module.

It regulates Voltage for the Processor.

The Processor MUST have a steady, 'clean', supply of Voltage; and it MUST be kept within the tight voltage range, for the Processor.

Too little, or too much; and the Processor turns off. (BIOS turns it off)

Your motherboard supports two Processors.

1) Processor (CPU_0) Zero which is in the middle of the motherboard, next to the PCI Express x16 slot;

2) and Processor (CPU_1) One, which is next to it.

The VRM 1 has failed. Needs to be replaced.

VRM's used are interchangeable.

IMHO you can remove Processor 1 (CPU_1), and it's VRM, and still use the computer; albiet slower though.

I have a broken Dell Precision 470 Workstation. The symptoms are as follows: Won't power up; Flashing yellow power LED on front panel; Blank STR_LED on motherboard; Yellow AUX_PWR LED on motherboa

Flashing front powerlight is often a result of a faulty powersupply, try another powersully on the pc and see if the problem gets solved. I've seen a few of these cases personally.

My dell 470 wont boot up every thing seems to be working but when i turn on i get a blank screen and no signal displayed Edward

This means that your monitor is not receiving a signal from your graphics card.
Here are the things that you can try:
-Disconnect and reconnect your monitor from your computer.
-Try using a different cable to connect your monitor to your computer.
-Try connecting your monitor to another computer, if it works there it means that there's a problem with your graphics card and it may require a replacement. If your monitor is still saying no signal even if it has been connected to another computer that works fine then the problem is with the monitor.

Dell Prec470 with a flickering amber light in front when i switch it on.

See my published guide entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

Whats happening is that the computer system is not passing the Power On Self Test or POST. Therefore the computer monitor does not receive a signal and goes into standby mode.

Take care

Dell Demension 9150. I push the button to turn it on and it just beeps. I tried it several time and had the same result. Any ideas on how to fix it? I do not have hardware experience. Thanks

if you the beeps are long, means that you need to replace the memory module. if it is a short beep, and your monitor is black:
  1. remove the video cable if your monitor display 'No signal' so the problem is in the central unit.
  2. if the monitor does not display 'No signal' so the problem is in the monitor you have to replace it.

Noisy piece of "Dell" lol

That's a confusing description of the events charles.

Have you identified the cause of the original problem - the dead caps? Is Over Voltage a possibility - have you verified the stability of the PSU?

Apologies if I've misunderstood.
