Microwave light stays on and unit won't heat/run

I think I'm having a door interlock switch problem and would like to determine the switch or switches to replace (of the three that are actuated by the door latch). Note that the fan and surface light do work as does the clock. Previously the magnetron fan would turn on when the door was opened, but the magentron was not running. The unit would heat by turning it on as usual. I inspected the latch mechanism and blew off the dust on the circuit board (using difluoroethane). Now, the interior light stays on but the unit will not heat.

If it's not heating at all, the magnetron is to blame.

OK, you will need to replace the magnetron and the touch pad as well. this will fix this issue.

SOURCE: microwave seems to turn on when door latch is opened

What's happening is you are activating one door switch a little before the other, and that is causing your light, fan, and turntable to come on. The plastic parts are not perfectly rigid, so they flex a little when you press the button, and that causes the lag to be more apparent. Even if you press the door open faster and look really close, you may notice the light, fan, and turntable coming on for a split second. That's perfectly normal. The relay on the control board must also be turned on before it will actually be cooking.

SOURCE: jes1290 microwave runs but no

Hi, if it keeps running when the door is open, that's usually due to a bad door switch or broken / loose door switch mount. You just need to fix the door switch or door switch mount to solve the problem....

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

  • Interlock switchIf your microwave is turning itself on, the first thing to check is the interlock switch. This is usually the first thing to malfunction that could cause this issue. If the interlock switch is bad then it will need to be replaced.

That would be just a defective secondary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount.

KithenAid model KUDSo1DL wont operate, clean green light flashes non stop

This is a issue with the way the water is moving & or heating in the unit. There should be a tech mini manual behind the motor kick panel. The manual describs the failure and it's correction. Depending the the model year & run / revision code, this error could be caused by low water level, a bad thermistor, the control board not sensing inputs, bad heater or door interlock switch issues. attached is a couple of help sheets. They are general in scope.

    Won't heat and rotate.

Typically, a no heat condition is the fault of burned door safety interlock switches. Check the switches with a contuinity meter. The no turning condition may be a belt.

You will have to remove the shell in both cases to make this repair.

    Hi,
Its a little tricky but can be done from the front. First unplug the unit, remove the top grill (above the door), then there is one screw to the control panel (remove it). Carefully, push up from the bottom of the panel to release the control, inside your should see to screws holding the interlock switches in place, if the harness is long enough you can bring them forward to inspect.
Good Luck, be safe and unplug unit first..

    Hi,

It sounds like one of the door micro switches is bad. There are three micro switches typically. A primary interlock, a secondary interlock and a monitor switch. It is most likely the primary or secondary interlock switch. You may need to take your switches to a professional appliance shop to determine which one is bad.
