I have an aging system and do not have the money to spend on a new one so I'm asking if the Geforce GTX 550 card will be compatible. Thanks!
The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum Edition mobo, has an AGP graphics expansion slot. (Accelerated Graphics Port)
It uses AGP graphics cards that are either 4X, or 8X. (Supports 1.5 Volt AGP graphics cards, hence 8X)

Click on the Specification tab. Look under the bold - Slots - subheading.
(Overview, { Which is the tab it automatically opens to}, Specification, Download, Support, News and Awards, Where to Buy )
This is Evga's version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550,

Click on the Details tab. (Overview, Details, Feedback)
Under the bold - Interface - heading, and to the right of the subheading - Interface, we see the interface is - PCI-Express 2.0 x16.
Tells you a lot right off the bat, if you know what you are looking at.
1) The graphics expansion slot you need on your motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot.
You have an AGP graphics expansion slot. (That uses either 4X, or 8X AGP graphics cards)
2) The PCI-Express technology used is PCI-Express 2.0
Therefore the answer is No, Stephen.
[ More info on AGP graphics technology, and PCI-Express technology,
1) AGP:

2) PCI-Express:

Now if someone asks you, why the GeForce GTX 550 graphics card will not work on your motherboard, you can explain why in detail, instead of just saying some dude/dudette on FixYa, said it will not work.
Are you sure some 'Mom and Pop' computer store will not trade out, a decent AGP graphics card, for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 you have?
Always worth a shot. Just MHO.

Thank you for the reply please see additional info above.
Got it Stephen! (Looking down at toes) Helps to actually READ.
(However in my defense it is only the second time in 8 years. 3 yr's on here, and 5yr's elsewhere)
A) As you stated the PCI Express technology is 1.0a
This is backed by the Newegg link.
Also from this,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_...
As you know I'm sure the PCI-Express 2.0 technology is backwards compatible, with PCI-Express 1.1 technology. Supposed to be for the PCI-Express 1.0a technology also, but do not believe it.
Backwards Compatible. Has a nice ring to it, huh?
Thing that is NOT stated, that using a mobo with the PCI-Express 1.0a, or 1.1 technology, AND a graphics card based on the PCI-Express 2.0 technology, you will NOT get the full capability of the PCI-Express 2.0 graphics card.
PCI-Express 1.0a, and 1.1, at a maximum rate, operates at a transfer rate of 2.5GigaTransfers per Second.
PCI-Express 2.0 operates, (At a maximum rate), at a transfer rate of 5.0 GT/s
This means with your motherboard, you won't get the full capability of the GTS 450, OR the GTX 550.
Seems like a waste of money IMHO.
Will it work? I can spout out the GPU used on a GTS 450,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_400...
[GF106]
,and the Graphics Processing Unit used on the GTX 550,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_500...
[GF116]
,and we can talk all day about upgrading your BIOS program, Windows updates, and we will still be talking about NOTHING.
Bottom line is you need someone who HAS used, that GTX 550 on the motherboard you have.
Me? I would go for it, and buy from Tigerdirect.
Why?
They have an excellent return policy with no questions asked.
You ain't happy, they ain't happy.
JMHO.

[ By the by. If you buy the GTX 550, give a computer geek a heads up if it works.
K? ]
WHERE are my manners?
Thank you Stephen for the rating, and kind words. Hope the graphics card works, and you find someone who can definitely state, that a GTX 550 works on your mobo.

joecoolvette,
Thank you for your detailed response. I am aware of the differences of the AGP and PCI Express slots. You misread my post. I have the Neo4 SLI version of the board which has 2 PCI Express 1.0 slots. When I first built this system I installed a PCI Express version of the EVGA Geforece 7600 GT card on it that have served me well for all intents and purposes during the past 4 years.
This is my mobohttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
This is my current video cardhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
I have read on some forums that some of Radeon's 5xxx series cars have issues with the nforce drivers so I opted to look into nVidia. I've read the Geforce GTS 450 works and since the GTX 550 is about the same price I wonder if that will work since I've not been able to find any card that is more powerful than the GTS 450 on my motherboard.
Now that we're on the same page do you have a solution to maxing out my mobo graphics wise? I'd appreciate it.
