SOURCE: craftsman 33 gallon air comp keeps kicking breaker

There are several conditions that would cause the problem that you have. Worn bearings, weak capacitor, or leaking in-tank checkvalve. Worn bearings would allow armature to drag against the field windings. Easy to check, motor shaft will feel loose in housing and the bearings will be noisy when you turn by hand. Motor capacitors should read to within 95% of uf value printed on side. You must remove at least one lead and short connectors for a moment then read with meter. Repair shops will generally test for free if you do not have a cap. tester. The in-tank check valve will cause undue strain on the motor if it leaks pressure back to pump from tank. Follow air discharge hose to brass valve at tank. Simple test with air in tank remove airline at checkvalve and look/listen or soapy water. Replace if it leaks or remove and clean debris till no leak. If motor strains with no air in tank I would rule-out check valve. One final condition, which is rare, is the flyball switch inside of motor. The motor has a start winding and run winding. Contacts to this internal switch will sometimes fuse in start position and cause your condition, however a motor stuck in this position will make an unusal sound because it cannot switch to run position. (like a car stuck in first gear) If you feel that this could be the problem, remove motor rear cover and sand contacts. Good Luck on your repair and email if you have specific question.

SOURCE: My 33 gallon air compressor will at start build up

Most likely it is the unloader valve. This is inline with the air filltube from compressor to tank. Somestimes the unloader valve is screwed into the tank and air tube is attached to it. This device takes the pressure out of the tube so the compressor can start without the back pressure from in the tank. Other possibility, the start capacitors of the motor. The capacitors must give a kickstart upon startup or the motor will just hum for a couple seconds and overload the breaker. A tempoary solution is to turn off the power to compressor when it reaches 120psi, then allow the pressure to drop to 40 or less, then turn power on and mostlikey compressor will start with a load of 40psi or less. It is a nuisance but it works until you replace the bad part. Goodluck,Macgivor

SOURCE: I have a 33 gallon craftsman compressor model

i think you will find there is nothing wrong with the compressor part of this its all down to a faulty motor
if it cant start up the motor the motor will hum at first then the circuit braker pops out? yes???
check your getting full mains power first as if its trying to run on a very long extenshion lead its not getting the full power to start up, and you will need a much heaver lead,,,if its in a plug on the wall, change the capasitor on the motor,,,this is the part that hold a lot of volts to kick start the motor over when it first trys to start,,if this capasitor has droped in holding its charge there wont be enough volts in it to kick start the motor over,,so the motor starts to hum first trying to start but it dont stand a chance of spinning up
so it keeps pulling more and more amps till the braker pops out,,,watch this capasitor it can realy bite you if you tuch the two ends that are live????
the motor has two windings in it,,a start up winding and a running winding,, if its been humming for some time now it could have damaged the start up winding

My 4 gallon 2hp unit will not start on its own and then the circuit breaker goes. I need to assist it to get started. Any ideas?

Check the tank check valve where the pump output line goes into the tank. If it's stuck open the pressure on the head won't be released and the motor will have to fight the tank pressure every time it tries to restart. Another possibility is the start capacitor on the motor may have gone bad. Only way to test it is to replace it.

My bostich 6 gallon pancake compressor won't shut off. It get so hot it stinks and I turn it off. The pressure gauges show that it should.

You didn't state your model number so I won't be able to tell you what specific parts you may need. If your guages are correct and the tank is coming up to pressure as it should but the motor doesn't shut off when the peak pressure is reached, you have a bad pressure regulator. They're easy to replace. If it's possible your guages are off and the shut-off pressure isn't being reached, the motor will continue to run as long as it has power. Reasons for not reaching peak pressure in the tank could be a leak somewhere like the pump to tank line or drain valve, a bad valve plate that isn't sealing properly or damaged piston or cylinder assembly.

Compressor motor runs but does not make compessed air

Some of the things for you to check are for any leaks anywhere, the valve plate assembly, the piston and cylinder assembly and the con-rod. If you have any leaks that let air out as fast as the piston is trying to pump it in you won't get any compressed air. Check the drain valve on the bottom of the tank and the air line from the pump to the tank. If any of the reeds on the valve plate assembly are bent or broken they won't seal the way they need to in order to compress air. If the cylinder is badly scored or the piston rings are scored or broken the piston won't pump compressed air into the tank. If the con-rod is broke the piston won't work at all.

Your tank check valve is stuck/broke. It's on the tank end of the line from the pump to the tank. It is supposed to close when the pump stops to keep air in the tank and let the system bleed pressure out of the pump so the motor can start when there is pressure in the tank. The part you need is CAC-437-2 and is available through searspartsdirect.com.

Whats the fuel capacity of 1984 econoline with dual tanks?

The side tank is 16 gallons, the rear tank is 19 gallons. Keep in mind you can never pump in the rated amount due to air pockets, so if the tanks were bone dry you could likely get about 33 gallons in both of them

hi,
one thing that would be worth checking is the pressure release valve which is usually located on the bottom of the unit. This valve is suppose to be used each time the unit is turned off. For obvious safety reasons you should release the pressure from the tank each time you are done using it. If this valve is leaking or was left open then you will not be able to achieve the desired full pressure. Just checking if this is tight may be your solution! Hope this helps!

Flotec 42 gallon water tank - short cycling and changing water stream...do I need a new tank or could it be another problem?

These holding tanks are pre charged with air which in turn pressurizes the water. The tank has a bladder and an air valve on top. The pre charge ,over time, loses pressure, and the tank has to be pressurized again.
  • The well pump needs to be turned off.
  • The water has to be drained from the tank
  • Air is put into the tank from the air valve on top of the tank, and is measured with a tire air gauge.
  • The pre charge pressure is set to two psi below the pump cut in pressure.
  • In other words if your pump kicks on at 30 psi, the pre charge pressure is set at 28 psi. If the pump kicks in at 20 psi, the pre charge is set at 18psi, etc.
  • After you pressurize the tank, turn water back on.
  • If water comes out of air valve on top of tank, then the bladder is ruptured and you need a new tank.
  • Hope this helps!

Air compressor w/5hp motor

Assuming that the motor is factory matched to pump, it should be powerful enough to turn the pump. Most problems with motors are related to pressure switch and/or capacitor. The pressure switch could have burned contacts causing low amps to reach the motor. The capacitor should test at least 90% of rated value printed on capacitor. Some volt meters have capacitor check setting. Also this motor at 5 hp must draw lots of amps. The outlet should be rated at least 20 amps and plug the compressor directly into oulet without an extension cord. \
Secondary problem is the in-tank check valve. The check valve should hold in tank pressure without leaking back to the head of the pump. If check valve leaks, replace it with any brand of same thread size. enjoy
