Installing hp laser jet 1320 printer

I bought the printer 2-3 years ago - now i want to connect it to new computer - the cd is misplaced - am using the internet to install the hard driver , it goes through installation process at the end it says make sure it is connected, I unplug and replug the USB it works for 2-3 minutes then it says installation failed
Please help i make the living with this printer, my old computer is in hand of the computer administrator, and i need to work with this printer

  • Close any screen savers, virus protection programs, or other software programs running on your computer.
  • Click on Download Now and a File Download box will appear.
  • Select Save and a Save As box will appear.
  • Select a directory to save the file in and click Save.
  • Locate the file using Windows Explorer when the download has completed.
  • Double click on the file. This will extract all the driver files into a directory on your hard drive and launch the installer. The default directory is Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\LaserJet 1320 Drivers. However, you can change the path and directory name at the time of extracting the file.
  • Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls uninstall. Reboot with the printer's USB disconnected. The idea is not to unplug/replug. Temporarily disable antivirus & firewall, make sure you are login/running as administrator and can access the Internet. Plug in the HP 1320 when instructed to do so. Another reboot maybe required.

1)right click the my computer icon
2)click properties and then click hardware n go to device manager.
3)uninstall all usb ports and then scan for hardware changes
4)ur pc will detect your printer and ask for printer drivers
5)re load drivers and your pc will communicate with your printer
6)for reloding install the cd follow the instructions on the screen and click next
7)restart when the printer is loded.connect the wires and cords properly.

    If you have lost you cd or don't know how to install your printer then all you need to do is download the drivers and software from the manufactures website that suits your operating system and printer.

    Drivers and software download, just click to gain access and then locate driver for your needs.

    When installing drivers/software it is generally a good practice to -




    · Delete old/previous installs

    · Leave printers USB cable disconnected from computer until newly installed software requests it to be connected.

Hi downward_man,

Here's the instruction on how you will install your HP Laser Jet 1320 Printer:


1. Access the HP hardware support site to retrieve the HP LaserJet 1320 driver download.

2. Click the link that represents your computer's operating system.

3. Scroll down the page, and click the "Download" action, below the "Driver - Universal Print Driver" table. Opt to save the driver, as the download file has the setup application that is needed to install it.
4. Double-click the setup application's icon from its new file location on your hard drive. The HP installation application will open automatically.
5. Click "Next" to proceed to the first installation steps.
6.Select all of the HP recommended installation options, and click "Next" to begin copying the driver's files and components to the computer.
7. When the HP installation wizard asks, plug the HP LaserJet 1320 USB sync cable to the USB port, located on the back of the printer hardware. Connect the other end of the cable to an open USB port on your computer.

8. Click "Finish" to complete and conclude the HP LaserJet 1320 series driver installation process.

Try unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in. Check to make sure that there are no paper jams or foreign objects stuck in the rollers. Reseat the toner and make sure the lid is firmly closed.

If ink is ok , then you may need to reinstall printer drivers.

Unplug printer USB.
Go to control panel>>Installed printers and delete existing printer installation.

Just downloading the PCL5 driver was not enough for my computer. Maybe it is enough for other users' computers. But in addition to downloading the drivers, i had to also download and install the "HP Laserjet 1320 plug and play print driver solution" at the bottom of the driver list. Save the file to your desktop, double-click it and follow instructions to install, then reboot. Then when I checked my printer list, the HP Laserjet 1320 was there. I printed a test page, and now i am good to go. Hope this helps.
