We have a tartan pattern suddenly appeared on the TV screen on our 55 inch LED TV. Any possible solution appreciated.
Suspect main board that processes all signal in and to the screen.
If not tried do see if same problem when rear inputs for audio/video are used.

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally

You did not say if the first one went back for the same fault. If it went back for a different fault then this set is faulty! If not then unless it it more susceptible to RF interference possibly mains borne than the flawless set (that is possible) and you have some other equipment in the house which is radiating like a power supply or dimmer or whatever, it must be faulty. Turn everything in the house off just to be sure nothing is causing interference. Even then it could be picking up interference from elsewhere. What affects it or does it seem random (position time of day etc.)? The only way to be truly sure is to try it in another location

I'm a few thousand clicks away from the TV.
Have asked the Mrs to connect the Wii and see if it works.
Will it be worth fixing the main board or cheaper to buy a new one?
Set is only about 3 years old.

Helmets were almost identical and it is still one of the best movies ever made in my opinion.
