One thing you can try instead of deleting the doucment writer is to change the default printer. You can do this by right-clicking on the HP printer icon and selecting "set as default" from the drop down box. Also try turning the printer off and back on aswell as restaring the computer if you have'nt already. Did that printer ever work from that computer? How is it wired, by "switcher" do you mean a shared printer through you network(was printer sharing configured properly), or an A-B printer switch. Please clarify

Under the control panel, click on the printer to bring up the print dialog. Go to printer at the top of page, drop down the menu and uncheck use printer off line. Should bring it on line.
