Hi, I just purchased a Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Plaer DMP-BD35. I am attempting to play the audio through a Yamaha HTR-6230 AV Receiver with 5.1 surround sound. I am using an optical cable. I am unable to get any sound and have read both manuals and searched the web for how to setup this connection. I can't tell if the setup is wrong in the BD35 or the AV Receiver. Thanks, Clarence

Check both for Optical

1) Check your DVD player make sure it is set to Dolby Digital or Optical Out or even AUTO (if applicable)
2) Check the Input source to the receiver say if you are using DVD on the receiver make sure the digital setting is set to either Optical or Auto

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

CAN THE panasonic dmp bd35 PLAY 3D BLU-RAY DISKS

I understand the DMP BD35 is a normal blue ray disk player and not a 3D. Please see this manual if you want to be doubly sure.

However something like a DMP BDT360 will play 3D blue ray discs and you can view it on a 3D ready TV.

If you truly have a blu-ray player, it will have a HDMI port.

Distorted audio on my surround sound

If it does it with just the one disc it is probably the file that you burned. Does the file sound ok on the computer? Sometimes files that are downloaded have bad audio tracks and I have seen cases where the encoding software that you are using messes up the file when it is modifying the file.
Try another DVD or Blu-Ray disc and see if it still distorts. If it does then it may be a setting in the player or in the receiver.

Cheers

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
