JVC Everio GZ-MG155 Camcorder Logo
Posted on Nov 25, 2008

I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG155, and the zoom is stuck at 1x.

Everything is blurry onscreen and when I attempt to zoom out the zoom will not work. It is saying 1x. I have tried to preset back to factory default setting but is not working.

Mine is stuck on zoom and will NOT focus!

My zoom is busted too! I can focus at 3x and 17x but the picture is the same. The zoom does not change. A 3 inch object takes up the entire screen from 20 ft away.

My zoom is stuck and the lens will not focus, either on manual and automatic. When you move the zoom lever, you can see a straight line at the position the lens is stuck. Anyone know how to "unstuck" the lens? It just happened and there were no drops or bumps on the camera previously.

Spoke with JVC technical support. They had me try to discharge the unit by keeping it on with no power source hooked up (no plug, no battery) for 1 hour. They said it is caused by static on internal capacitors.

That didnt work. So now they say that means the lens is broken and it needs to be fixed. They didnt quote a price, but could be anywhere from $100 - $275. Darn camcorder is only worth a little more than that.

Bottom line: Doesnt look like there is a fix. Each user needs to check warranty info or JVC will charge charge you for fixing the darn lens. Seems like they should check for faulty zoom lens, but they are not.

Did you try holding down the record button and the picture snap shot button at the same time to reset it? It did for me.

How can I connect my JVC Everio GZ-MG155 camcorder (with a dock) to the HDMI tv input? What kind of adaptor(s) would I need?

The Everio GZ-MG155 and the dock supports an special A/V cable with composite ( http://store.jvc.com/product.asp?Model=QAM0120-001 ) or S-video ( http://store.jvc.com/product.asp?Model=YTU94146A ) cables for a TV with an analog tuner (NTSC). These signals are 480i. If you want to connect this analog signal to the HDMI port, you need an analog to digital video converter (and the appropriate cables). Something like this would work: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011406&p_id=9994&seq=1&format=2 . This model will attempt to upconvert the signal to an HD format (720p minimum). Additional converters are here: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/cotohdco1.html . The A/V to HDMI cables will not work so check out these products carefully.

The manual for the JVC Everio GZ-MG155 is available on the product page: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027855 . The direct link to the Instruction manual is http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/91/LYT1668-001C.pdf .

I hope this helps. If your TV has the legacy analog ports, you just need the original A/V cable.

I have an everio camcorder GZ-MG155U. It will only focus on 9X, 10X, and 11x. Anything else gets blurry. I have tried auto focus and manual focus and nothing works. I also tried resetting to the...

The most likely cause for this is a zoom or focus lens out of place or impaired in some way and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Your camera's Tele Wide sliding pot is damage or carbon inside,if you have Isopropyle alcohol then few drops give inside the T/W pot and move it right left maybe your problem will solve

Zoom stuck and will not focus

Check to make sure you have not inadvertently set the camera into manual focus mode. Many cameras have 2 modes: auto focus and manual focus.
