Hello- I don't see any model number anywhere on the unit, it has no ice maker and the freezer is on top. About a week ago it started buzzing every 4 or 5 minutes and it lasts about ten seconds. A day later, I found it running but completely warm. I unplugged it and called maintenance. The maintenance guy said he couldn't do anything because when he plugged it in, it worked again. A couple days later it started buzzing again and then stopped working again. I unplugged it for a couple hours and plugged it back in and it worked. Another couple days and it's now buzzing again and appears to have died again. My maintenance guy says there's NOTHING he can do if he isn't here to see it in the "dead" condition. From the research I've done, it seems that every component can be tested for working properly. Maybe I'm wrong. From what I've read, it's probably the start relay. It sure sounds like a relay that's trying over and over to turn on but it's failing. The fact that it comes back after being unplugged indicates that the compressor is overheating. Am I close? Also, is this inefficiency running up my electric bill while I wait and wait for the maintenance guy to figure the problem out? Any reason this problem should take a week to figure out? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU
I think you hit it right on the head. The start device is likely bad and trys to start the compressor (but can't) and it then overheats. If this type has a small white box on the left side of the compressor, take it off and shake it to see if it makes noise and debris falls out. That's the culprit. One more thing though, if your compressor has a decal with a little blue indian head drawing on it the compressor is also dead, otherwise you can just change the start device out and you should be good to go! There's a kit that replaces that type start device, comes with a new start device and overload along with the proper jumpers, etc. and it's REAL easy to install by yourself.
I have a zanussi tabletop freezer which starts for 10 sec then cuts out same.I replaced the start relay twice now and its overheated the compressor three times now and blows the main trip on my mains !!
the freezer is 14 months old. I think the model ZUC053W has a fault !! anyone else with this problem??

Mine is doing the exact same thing....and the freezer/fridge stopped working! I did notice the little blue indian head decal as well - why does that mean the compressor is dead? :O
Are those somehow automatically dead if the part is buzzing??
My refrigerator buzzes for about 10 seconds and is not cooling. If I unplug it for a few hours when I plug it back in it works for about 8 hrs or so.
I do not like to be the one to give you bad news, but you probably need a new refrigerator. Mine was doing the same thing, BUT when it eventually DID start up, it did cool to the proper temperature. However, it has been acting like this for 2 months now, and I'm not sure how much longer it will go on like this. The service rep. tried a new relay, and this did not fix the problem like we had hoped. Replacing the compressor would cost close to what it would cost to buy a new refrigerator. Never buy Kelvinators (this is the one I had the problem with), Frigidaires, or Westinghouses. They are all made by the same people, and they're not good, although they used to be.
