I am at a loss. Rarely do I ever have to ask advice from tech guys. But, here I am. I bought a Compaq laptop (Mistake number one) I usually build my own system. But, at the time. I was a truck driver. And, didn't want to lug a tower, monitor ETC... It has worked fine since I got it. However, the DVD drive in it stopped working. I now want to do a clean install with my Compaq system dvds. But, can't. I went out and got an external DVD writer/reader. Hoping the problem would be solved. I did just that. However, in the bios it doesn't give me an option.
What am I to do? Is there a way to possibly update my bios to give me an option to boot from a USB DVD drive? In the words of a great man John Lennon. "HELP! I need somebody. HELP! Not just anybody. HELP! You know I need someone. HELP!!!!" LOL
I will try to clarify. The build in DVD drive is not working. I have no idea why. As a result, I can't do a clean install with my boot discs. I bought a USB Exteral DVD drive. And,I cannot get it to boot from it at all.
In the bios. The USB options I have are for a usb hard drive, and flopy disk. There are no options to boot from just a USB connections. And, I have no idea how to fix it. The only thing I can think of is a possible bios update.
however, I am not sure how well that will work.I will try to clarify. The build in DVD drive is not working. I have no idea why. As a result, I can't do a clean install with my boot discs. I bought a USB Exteral DVD drive. And,I cannot get it to boot from it at all.

Base unit device is usually the memory card reader or the memory card reader enhancement driver to make it faster.Go to HP/Compaq and get the driver....(http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1842076&taskId=135).Make sure you use your correct v6000 model number to get all the correct drivers and updates for your machine.
Please visit service center, tell then to do that. Dont try these at home. If your make a mistake of driver setting allinment then your dvd and driver both can damaged.
You can get the wireless drivers in the laptop itself. U need to type in the start search as recovery manager and when the window is opened, click on the advanced options and select the option hardware driver installation. Search for the sound driver and select it and it get re-installed. If this doesnt work try to go to hp.com and select support and drivers and enter the product number of the laptop and follow the onscreen instructions. Thanks and Regards Honey

usually all drivers for Compaq and HP computer systems (portable and non-portable) can be found on the HP support website (Click here to go to it), simply go there, chose your region, than your country, enter your model number (not the series, the model number, you would usually find it on the service tag, or wherever you would find a serial number), but be sure to chose "Download drivers and software (and firmware)", and than chose your operating system. Hope this has helped.

Did you go into the BIOS and set the boot device to USB port?
