My HP Compaq touchpad just stopped working out of the blue. My computer screen blinked a couple of times so I switched it off and on again and when the computer restarted the touchpad had stopped working. Have tried almost everything from re-installing the synaptic touchpad to trying to find the touchpad on/off button (which I did not find) but nothing works. Please help !!

I had this problem on my Dell Inspiron 1318, so I went on to their support centre and through the Chat to a technical advisor tool, they uninstalled and reinstalled the driver which controls the touchpad and now the problem is completely gone. I suggest you contact Acer or the customer service of the company that you bought your laptop from and ask them to do something similar. I didn't even need to send my laptop back, Dell were able to take control of my laptop remotely and it only took about an hour in total. Hopefully your provider will be able to offer a similar service.
You may even be able to do this yourself if you can figure out which touchpad driver you need and look on the Acer/laptop maker website support and look at updates for drivers or downloads or something similar. Personally I found using the company's expertise much easier.

On my acer it is the fn and f7 button pushed together.. that turns the touchpad on and off

Use alps one as well as check weather your touch pad is lock or not

Update synaptics driver from Hp.com that should fix the issue

There is a button to the left of the ON button above the keyboard that turns the touchpad on and off. The light next to that button should be off for the touchpad to work.
