I recently bought an ION Profile Vinyl-to-MP3 Turntable. Pretty inexpensive player but gets the job done for what I need. It worked well for the first dozen records but now the tone arm absolutely refuses to drop onto the record. Every time I move it, it automatically returns. I've tried moving it fast, slow, have changed the angle with which I approach the record, have done things like removing the USB cord, balancing the player on different surfaces, all with no luck. I'm hoping not to have to send/bring this in for repairs, since that would likely cost more than what I paid for the player. If someone could give me some basics on how the auto-return on a tone arm works I will try to fix it myself.
I've got the same problem. When you put therecord on, spin it from the centre, and it will release the mechanism inside, this is what I do, and it works fine. I think the problem is that there are twoplates under the turntable, and there was grease between them, after a few goesthe grease disappears, causing the problem.
I'm having the same problem, the tone arm keeps hanging above the vinyl. If I take the counterweight off mine, the needle will touch the vinyl, but I feel like there is too much pressure. I couldn't find anything else on the net - I'm am using a Stanton t 120 C curve arm DJ turntable - please help.

This is a tough one. There is usually a series of gears that function in unison to make all the magic happens. These gears are usually set in motion by a smaller belt located inside the unit. If this belt has come off or is damaged, your unit will not work. Or, if the gears have cracked, or dried up, same issue.
Suggest taking it to a service center for repair.

Upload the newest ION software-Itunes updated to 9 and something went flukey. That should take of it. http://www.ionaudio.com/ionttusb

Thanks Michael, that was an awesome suggestion and I'm now back in business. To clarify, what I'm doing now is spinning the turntable counterclockwise about 3-4 times before I try to drop the tonearm. Here's something else that future people with this problem might try ... this was what ION's support told me to do. This did not seem to work but between this and Michael's suggestion, I was on the right track.
"Push the stop button and manually rotate the table about 90 degrees, then release the button and complete a single rotation of the table, and it *should* reset it.
Holding the stop button should reset the armature so that it'll run through a record once, at which point the armature *should* reset."
Again, this didn't work for me, but maybe it will work for others.
I have to rotate the platter about 12 times counterclockwise (without the stop button part) every time I want to record a record.
Thanks for the tip! I've just tried the ION's tip (pressing the stop button etc.), and it worked perfectly again!
