Firstly is the air comming from the outdoor unit cold or warm? if it is cold then the 3way valve is working and it has changed to heating. If it stays warm then it is still in cooling mode. The indoor fan wont come on until the coil temp gets warm enough, ( so it doesnt blow cold air on you straight up). If it is changing into heat mode then the larger of the pipes connected to the outdoor unit should get warm/ hot. If this is not happening then the unit is either out of gas or the compressor is on hollidays and wont come back to work.

SOURCE: Not heating

Yes, the reversing valve has a separate coil. some energize on cool mode, some on heat mode. Has the thermostat been replaced? I find this a common mistake.

SOURCE: Problem with GE Zoneline 5200 model

Heat pumps have saftey circuits that prevent liquid flooding of the compressor. Inadequate airflow across the evaporator in cooling can trip this circuit. Have your package unit serviced with particular attention to cleaning the evaporator coil and be sure your filters are clean and changed frequently in the summer months. Hope this helps GL!

SOURCE: Heated air coming out when unit is in Cool Mode

Heat pumps are sometime constructed to "Fail in the heat mode." It could be either the t'stat or the reversing valve. Be sure the t'stat is wired correctly. Usually the"O" terminal is for the reversing valve on the outdoor unit.

SOURCE: 18 year old Janitrol Heat Pump freezing up.

i would get someone to check your refrigerant levels have you ever had the evaporator coil flushed and cleaned? proper refrigerant levels and proper airflow across coils are extremley important not to scare you but 18 yrs is a long time on a heat pump 9-12 years is the point where they really loose there efficiency going for a newer one would probably cut your operating cost in half if not more depending where you live there are a lot of people not familiar with heat pumps so i suggest finding a company that specializes in them to service your unit

Why does my sanyo model KHS2472 has a red light blinking in heat mode and a green in cooling mode, does not work in either mode makes a gurgling sound when it tries to run?

Hi,
The red light indicates it's either heating or in defrost mode
Check the outdoor unit if the compressor is running - the large pipe on the outdoor unit should be hot on heating or cool to touch on cooling
When in heating mode - the indoor fan will not start until the indoor coil is warm enough
If the reversing valve that changes from heating to cooling is faulty then you may encounter the same symptoms too
Probably need a Refrig Tech to have a look at it?
Good luck

Why isn't it heating?

Because its an air conditioner, not a heater?

I have a Bonaire split aircondition & heating system. When I use remote controll change mode doesn't work heating mode. Other mode are working properly but heating mode doesn't work.

check the ambient temperature as there is most probably a lock out feature that will not allow reverse cycle to work if the system cannot remove the cold from the evaporator
To understand the system , when in cool mode the outside unit is called the condenser and in effect removes the heat trapped by the evaporating gas in the evaporator to the atmosphere
in the heating mode the roles of the evaporator and the condenser are reversed so that the evaporation of the gas in the now evaporator out side is now compressed in the inside unit and the heat from that compression action is released into the room
read the manual for the unit or talk to an ac specialist and have it explained

Hi, I have a wall mount midea split a/c model- MSG-36HR that will only heat. when put in cool mode it only blow's room temp air and the outdoor unit won't run. On heat mode it works normally. I have cycled...

Most heat pumps are 'fail-safe to heat'. That is: the normal position of the valve which reverses the function is in the position which provides heat. The reversing valve must be powered to switch to the cooling position.

Although the lack of valve function could be a mechanically defective reversing valve - it's more likely to be an electrical issue. Start with checking for power at the reversing valve's coil. If it's powered unpower it - you will be able to hear the reversing valve distinctively
