Sympatico & DLink DI-704P

Ok ... have to type this one out properly , When i connect the DI-704P to my network card i get an amber light on the network card but i am able to connect to the router , i've reset the router , rebooted etc and i am not able to connect to the internet through Sympatico. When i connect my high speed modem to my network card it works fine , i am able to ping the router etc ... but the amber light is always on . Thought this was supposed to be simple to setup , maybe i am missing a step ? Any help is appreciated ! Keith

Did that , still does not work , amber light is on when i connect my network card to the router but i can see / connect to it , my high speed modem ** looks ** like it is connecting to the Internet , when i try to check mail it has the connect/disconnect lights working ( if that made sense ) maybe there is a problem with the router ? I am ready to use it as a door stop at this point . Thanks for the response and help .

Nothing out of the ordinary , local network works, i hooked up another machine to the router and i can see it , but i cannot get out to the wide area network. I even disabled all firewalls that i had and still nothing , what puzzles me is the amber light on my network card , it is supposed to be green but stays amber when i plug into the hub , i plug it into the high speed modem directly and i get a green light . I am stumped , thanks for taking the time to answer me .

It usually is simple, and hopefully the answer is as well. If you haven?t already done so unplug the modem and the router. Wait for a few seconds and then plug the modem in followed by the router. Reboot your PC and try the Internet again. If it still doesn?t work then I would try doing a hard reset of your router and reconfigure using the setup process outlined by the manufacturer. If that still doesn?t work let us know and we?ll continue ?.

When you reset and reconfigured using the setup procedure did you receive any error messages or anything out of the ordinary?

Configuring the Wireless Settings on the Printserver
The wireless settings of the printserver can be configured using its web-based utility. Make sure the printserver is set to a static IP on the network.

D-Link DI-704P as wireless

Yes, you have to. The router model mentioned is not a wireless router, not unless you have other network device there that transmits wireless connection such as a wireless access point.

Need help in connecting to the internet using Dlink 704p router.....

it doesn't matter whether the other computer is set to static and the other one is set to dynamic as long as both computers are getting/using valid ip addresses.
if i got it right. 1 computer is connected to the LAN port of the router and the other computer is connected to the WAN port. if so, you need to connect both computer to the LAN ports and the WAN port of the router should be connected to the modem that you are using.
if the physical connection is correct, check how you are connecting to the internet through the modem. if you can access the internet from the modem without configuring anything, you just need to power cycle. turn off everything then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights on the modem to turn on properly before turning on the router then turn on the computers.
hope this'll help you but if not, just provide the following:
(1)ISP:
(2)brand/model of the modem:
so i can help you further.

Mac Support for DLink 704P Router

The DI 704 P software is not distributed anymore , as D-Link discontinued the product.
Among 704 P only last version (revision D) supported mac, check here to find out your version.
You can still couple the server to mac using this procedure, give it a try.
If it does not work contact D-Link and ask if you can have copy of control software.

Add di-704p to an existing network

What you want to do should be quite easy:

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-704P to a LAN port of your WRT54G. Try using a standard network cable. If the port status lights does not turn on on both sides when you connect the cable, use a "crossover" cable. Important: leave the DI-704P WAN port empty.

2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-704P, your WRT54G will be the DHCP server.

3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-704P, different from your WRT54G. Example, if your WRT54G has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4 to your DI-704P. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your WRT54G and that the subnet mask is identical on both.
You will then be able to use your print server from any wired and wireless computer and the remaining LAN ports both on the WRT54G and DI-704P.

Problem with a 704 p router

to do a hard reset, hold for about 5 seconds (don?t hold too long) and then release. (Or, release when M1 and M2 flash at the same time.) The M1 amber light flashing means that the system is active. Go to your routers settings by typing 192.168.0.1 and make sure that enable DHCP is showing and that the network adapter cards in your pc's are set to obtain an ip address automatically, to do this start>control panel>network connections, then on your network adapter ensure it says enabled, if so right click on it and select properties, go to TCP/IP line and click properties and make sure obtain ip address automatically is ticked, ok it and restart pc and see if you get a connection.
