Cannot get 1TB WD MyBook to work on NetGear N600 Router

I recently got a Netgear N600 router with the USB port on it. I hook up my external WD 1TB drive to the router and nothing shows up even with hitting refresh, any suggestions?

The model number for my TB drive is WDBAAF0010HBK

I have the drive software installed on my pc and it still does not show up on my router. I cannot find anything in the PDF that tells me how to configure it to run via the USB port on my router.

one step at a time please

connect ext drive directly to pc and let's make sure pc can see it without router

then we'll work on that next issue

  • Anonymous May 23, 2012

Yes it can and I also tried my laptop and had no problems with Win Vista or Win 7 seeing it

  • Anonymous May 23, 2012

ok so now we talk about the router i see from specs that the route has a usb port and the wd can be accessed that way I checked both websites, and there is nothing to suggest this won't work, but here's my recommend. Contact WD support first, and ask them for drivers for that netgear router they are usually much more helpful(sometimes) than Netgear folks(who don't have much clue on integrating storage platforms on their network components)

try that first and let me know I'd do a side by side session on this usually but not at that level here yet

This link is quite illuminative

seems that drive configuration needs to be done when connected to pc first then after it's recognized, added to network router

SOURCE: wd mybook lights flash and cannot acess drive

Just an FYI for anyone else with a similar problem. I had my buddy look at it and it was discovered that the problem was with the power cord.
If your hard drive is still under warranty, call WD and ask that they send you a new power cord. It worked for me instantly.

Worth trying anyway,

You have a bad power supply. You can probably get a new adapter for it.

SOURCE: Connecting WD Passport external HD with Belkin N+ router

I had this same issue. Found it to be a sequencing issue. Plug the USB into the router with the power off to the HDD. Power on the HDD and you should be able to get to it fine. Also make sure you have the latest firmware on the router.

I have Hughs net HN7000S hooked up to my desktop I want to use my laptop I have a netgear N600 how do I hook it up? As o WAP or router?

You connect the ISP modem to the main port on the Netgear router. You should now see a wireless network on the laptop.

Passwords / keys / paraphrases are located in the wireless part in the web admin to the router. Same thing for the user / SSID.

Arris tm502g doesn't recognize Netgear n600

Did you run the driver CD for the Netgear N600 ? That is the first place I would look. Or it is possible that your Netgear N600 is not working properly. There are some very inexpensive small USB dongles that do work very well, I would try that as well. They run in the less than $10.00 range at places like Ebay or Amazon.

Netgear n600 software wont install says we dont have the right OS . We have windows xp

eh, that disc is just bloat ware anyway (you don't need it)
1) connect hard line to your router (that big phone line looking cord goes from port 1,2,3 OR 4 to your computer)
2) open your web browser (IE, chrome, safari, whatever)
3) go to "192.168.1.1"
4)should ask for username and password (use "admin" and "password" for netgears... "admin" and "admin" for cisco linksys)
5) go to your wireless tab
6) choose a name and type in at SSID then click "save settings"
7) maybe same tab or maybe under "wireless security tab" choose WPA WPA2 personal and choose a password and save settings again.
9) now hook everything up normal and connect to your new wireless network!

hope that gets you pointed the right way

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = passwordYou can now change the default admin password and configurethe wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.or passphrase etc.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

My HP G60 laptop with Vista won't connect to Netgear router

Usually there are 2 types of wireless connections, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Your laptop may not be able to connect to one of these connections, so it may be incompatible with your router. You can try buying a USB networking card (no more than $20). It will plug into one of your USB ports and should allow you to connect to your router. Hope this helps!

My xbox is not finding my netgear wireless

perhaps the "N" in your router's specs is the problem, enter the routers configuration page and degrade the wireless mode to G (802.11g) instead of N and try again.

hope this helps,
