RCA D52130 52 in. Won't Display High Def
Hi!
I doubt you'll look at this 2 years later, or even have the T.V.
I have the same TV and was able to view ps3 and xbox 360 games in 1080i, but it's a little tricky. First, let me say that the ps3 is probably not the best system to try using 1080i in unless you have a 360 to help trick the tv into working.
Xbox 360
You need to first set the video to 1080i. This will make the screen display in a bunch of horizontal lines most of the time, but if you keep toggling it on and off, it eventually works. To avoid having to sit and swap between the two modes, it's easier to first set it to 1080i and confirm the setting, then go back into the settings, select 720 (first option above 1080i) and cancel as soon as the video mode changes. 95% of the time this will make it display correctly in 1080i mode. If you turn the tv off and back on, it will sometimes reset to the horizontal lines. If you restart the xbox, it will reset to horizontal lines most of the time. With the ps3, you can set it to 1080i and keep toggling it until it works, but when the game launches it can screw up again, so it's best to have the xbox on and ready with a component switch so you can fix it with the xbox then switch back to the ps3. I think the cable that comes with the tv for HD input (the component plugs don't work, they only support 480, but the vga looking input supports 1080i) - the cable is just poor quality and can barely handle the signal. I've been trying to find a better quality cable with no luck.
Hope this helps other people with this ancient beta HD input canadian tvness.
I figured it out. Only one of the 3 composite inputs on the rear of the tv supports 1080i. I plugged it in to this set of inputs and now it works fine. Sorry to bother you. thanks.
sorry, but the right answer was to use the dtv component input instead of the component 1 input I had originally plugged into.
