AT&T EP5962 handset will not find base unit

One of my handsets will not find the base unit.

I tried to use it one day, and it kept displaying "System Busy" message. I tried several things to get it to work to no avail. All the rest of my handsets work fine.

I have used the "Unregister All" function on the base unit, and re-registered the other handsets. This one displays "Searching for Base" until the battery dies.

Any ideas?

1. Go to your base unit.
2. Put your flip phone in the cradle.
3. Press down and hold down (AT ALL TIMES) the end (find hs) button.

SOURCE: Got instruction to unregister KX-TG6074B

Thanks for the reply, I did get the solution from Panasonic support group (worked!). Here they are:

1. Unplug the AC Adaptor from the back of the main base.
2. Hold down the LOCATOR button, while plugging the AC Adaptor back.
3. Once the base indicator lights come back on, release the Locator button.
4. After less than 5 seconds, hold down the LOCATOR button again until you get a long beep.

After doing the above procedure, you may then register your handsets to the base unit by following the instructions on page 39 of the manual

SOURCE: Handset won't work

I went through this exercise with a Siemens Gigaset 8800. The solution is to DE-register the handset first. Then register it with your base. This function can likely be accessed in the handset menu. The phone you purchased is apparently still registered to the previous user's base.

Can you tell me how to fix this T23 PD error message on a handset for the AT&T EP 5962 2-line phone?

Well this worked for me so hopefully it will work for everyone else also... I had dropped my handset and the battery popped out.. well upon reinserting the battery i got the T23 PD Blinking error on my phone, well after trying multiple things from what the manual was stating I eventualy gave up and unplugged the handset from the wall... well we received a call in our office and all of a sudden my "unplugged" phone, that was still sitting in the handset charger began to ring and all the normal numbers and name were on the face of the handset... I then plugged the phone back in and went into the menu to Register, then entered the Base ID which is found at your Base Phone. Once this was complete it said please wait.. although for a short while it kept on saying System Busy if you tried to hit line 1 or 2 but by the next morning it is working fine! :) Hope this helps for you also.

How do I deregister my handsets on my VTech 2656

To be able to register your replacement handset, you must de-register all the handsets from the VT2656 base unit.

Follow the steps below to de-register your handset(s) from the VT2656 base:

1. Take out the handset that sits on the base.
2. Unplug power from the base.
3. Hold down PAGE while reconnecting power. When the In Use light blinks, release the PAGE key.
4. Hold down PAGE key for 5 seconds. When the In Use light begins to flash, release the PAGE key.
5. The handset charging light will blink 5 times. Within 5 seconds from when it stops blinking, press PAGE once.

You must register the handset(s) by following the steps below:

1. After charging the handset, remove it from the cradle, the LCD display will read "SEARCHING FOR BASE".
2. Press "NEW" and then enter the 15-digit Base ID code, located on the underside of the VT2656 base unit.
3. Press "OK". The handset will display "PLEASE WAIT!!".
4. Wait approximately 15 seconds. The handset will display "FOUND BASE". If the handset displays "BASE BUSY TRY LATER", this indicates that the system is in use. Wait until the base unit is in the idle (on hook) mode and repeat steps 2-4.

Can not rec a dial tone, phone states no link to base move closer

If “No link to base. Move closer to base, try again.” is displayed
even when using the handset near the base unit, the handset may have lost communication with the base unit. You need to re-register the handset to the base unit.
• Make sure the base unit is not being used.
• Have both handsets and base unit nearby during registration.
• Follow steps 1–3 listed below. You have about 1 minute to complete them.
• Confirm the extension number of the handset which has lost the communication by placing the handset on the base unit or charger.
If you re-register the handset using the other handset’s extension number, the other handset will not function.
• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

1 Base unit: Press and hold [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] until a beep sounds.
• The CHARGE indicator flashes.

2 Base unit: Press the extension number [1] (handset symbol 1 ) or [2] (handset symbol 2) of the
handset which has lost the communication.

3 Handset: Press and hold [FLASH/CALL WAIT] until “Handset Registering” is displayed.
• When registration is complete, a beep sounds from the handset and the display shows the number.
• Wait for 20 seconds after registration is complete while the handset establishes communication with the base unit.

• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

I have an EP5962 system with 4 cordless phones. It is at a seasonal residence, and I just came here for the first time this season, and none of the handsets works. The base unit works. I charged for 24...

First thing you must do, is clear the base memory of the phones.

To deregister all handsets:
Select MENU on the base, scroll to SETUP BASE,
then select OK.
Scroll to DEREGISTER ALL and then select SET. Thebase will display DO YOU WANT TO DEREGISTER ALL HANDSETS?
Select YES. All handsets are deregistered and are unusable until each has been re-registered

During registration, you must enter the 15-digit ID number of the telephone base. To find this number, go to the base, select MENU, scroll down to DISPLAY BASE ID, then select OK

IN 120 base keeps flashing CL

This is due to the base unit losing power and needs the clock resetting.
The handsets retain their clocks under battery power so this is a little misleading.

To reset the base unit clock:
- press the OK key
- press the 'down' arrow twice until "DATE/TIME" is displayed.
- press the OK key again, this will display the year. Enter the correct year on the handset numeric keypad and then press OK. (Only the last two digits of the year need to be entered).
- The date is then displayed in MM/YY format, enter the correct date on the handset numeric keypad and then press OK.
- The time is then displayed, enter rhe correct time on the handset numeric keypad and press OK.
- The handset then beeps and displays "SAVED".
- Press the "C" button and replace the handset on the base unit.

The base unit should now stop flashing "CL".
