Had a sewing party last night with 6 forth grade girls. :) Somehow one of my machines got "injured". The bobbin case was all loose and made a lot of noise. I noticed a spring is unattached and just hanging by one end. I don't know where the other end should be reattached and there is no diagram or reference to the spring in the manual.
Thanks!
Check out this site. There is pictures of each machine there. All the Q&A answers in simple language, as
well as a GREAT cust. support. (its a Brother after all!)
I found download manuals there as well.

Different model but likely similar... see page 11 item 34, connecting rod return spring(s).

Spring unattached near bobbin
Hello- did you manage to get this fixed in the end? I have the exact same problem with my Brother XL5012 and can't see where to reattach the spring?
I followed directions and tried the site recommended for help with the loose spring. All I get is another page telling me to enter the model # of my machine..... About 10X now!!!! Can't you just tell me how to fix it???
I got mending to do!!!!
No I did not!!!
