it's always worth replacing the brushes - pattern one's are cheap at around 20 quid so it's just about the cheapest thing to try and washing machines do all mannor of crazy things you wouldn't think were related - like not draining (the water does still drain out but when it hasn't spun properly the clothes are still full of water for instance) worn brushes have a differing effect on difrent washing cycles. the other thing to suspect is the controller -but these are so expensive you can nearly always buy a cheap washing machine for less
I have the same problem, pulled the drain pump out and the impeller had broken free, beware when ordering a new one, got one from eBay, ad said it was for a HWMP50F however something different arrived, now sending it back and waiting to see what l get next, missus aren't happy no washing machine.
