No boot, casing problem?

I believe what you are seeing is the monitor displaying "no input signal". My question at this point is, how do you know the motherboard is running? Are you getting the single beep for successful post? or are you just hearing the fans kick on when power is applied and assuming its working? The computer kicking on but not posting can be caused by a grounding issue from the mother board to the case. You can buy small rubber washers at the hardware store to place between the case and the motherboard were the screws go in. This will eliminate most grounding issues. If what I have said is not the case, then please clarify your post some.

Make sure that the motherboard is not being grounded, meaning that it should not touch any metal inside the case, this can cause an instant short which will make it not boot.

Try removing one DIMM (stick of ram), and booting. If that doesn't work, remove the other DIMM (assuming you have two), and try to boot again. If that fails, roll up your sleeves and get to troubleshooting.

Is this a new build? If so, take the motherboard out of the case, leave it on either the motherboard's box that it came in, or anti-static bags, and leave only the power connected to the motherboard. Try booting it to rule out a short coming from a misplaced stand-off inside the case. If it boots, check where your stand-offs are inside the case, making sure none are contacting the actual circuitry on the back of the motherboard.
If all of this fails, you may just have a bad motherboard, contact the manufacturer for RMA procedures.

I once had something similar happen to me. Triple check to see that all connections are secure to the motherboard - a loose 20 pin ATX cable was the culprit in my case.

Your computer power button may not be working, or the CPU may be bad and it can also be the motherboard is faulty.You need a new case or fix the power button or try another CPU in the computer or replace the motherboard.

The cause for this is there was a short some where. It could have been the USB port, the cable or the IPOD its self.

You might try another USB port on the computer to see if you have the same problem.

If your computer will not boot then you might need to clear the flee power offf the system. You can do this by unpluging the AC power and holding in the power button for 30 to 45 seconds. Then plug back in the system and it should boot.

If the computer will not boot then you may have a ground issue. This does not happen much any more but I had this happen on a friends computer once where the case was worped and when i put my USB drive is the computer did the same as yours. The issue was the force of me putting the USB drive in shifted the board and caused it to ground out. So you may need to take everything out of the case and reseat the motherboard.

try another graphics card if you have a working spare

A couple things: Is the BIOS giving you an error beeps? Also, does the motherboard have Integrated graphics? Sometimes if the Integrated graphics are enabled, it can cause the graphics card to not display at all. You also might want to check that the CPU doesn't have too little or *more likely* too much thermal compound on it. If the thermal compound is on the bridges of the CPU, this can cause the machine to start, but not boot to the BIOS.

This is a typically problem when you don't have the motherboard proerly seated. Some part of the board must be touching the metal contacts when you screw down the board to the case which causes a short. Try to reseat the motherboard and also make sure you're using washers in between where you screw down the motherboard to the case. That should fix your issue (Unless there's something wrong with the motherboard all-together).
