My Sansa M240 was working fine and outta no where it turned off i tried to turn it back on and it would just freeze on the Sansa logo i tried taking out the battery and i tried reseting it and nothing works i dont know whats wrong...
Jan 21, 07 I called and spoke with a Sandisk rep on Jan 16 about the "Sansa m240 startup screen" freeze-up problem that so many are experiencing. He said a bad batch was sent out in early December and on those m240's there is "NO POSSIBLE FIX" for that problem, but no plans for a recall. He said he could not discuss what the problem was, but I guess it would be a hardware issue, since a firmware issue could easily be resolved. He said anyone with this problem is requested to call Sandisk and get a MRA number, then return the m240 to Sandisk for a replacement. If you have one that's frozen on the Sansa m240 startup screen (all other freeze-ups can probably be corrected) take it back to your place of purchase or call Sandisk immediately.

My sansa m240 was working fine yesterday and I turn it off normally but when I tried to turn it on today it didn't
but when i connect it to the computer it do recognize it, the only problem is the power button
The m240 that i use has frozen on the sansa start up screen and will not boot, it can be turned off but when trying to restart it just goes to the sansa logo .
My solution is my mp3 player freze up and i tried to take out battery out and do it again but it do not work
I had this problem. Sandisk wanted to rma but I couldn't find my receipt. I took out the battery and plugged it in the usb. After about 20 minutes it connected. I tried many things but what finally worked was going to My Computer, right clicking on the Sansa M240 and reformatting.
Everything works. I put on new files and am good again.
Just go to sandisk.com and get a RMA. They paid for my shipping with UPS and sent me a brand new one. The new one has worked fine I believe it was a problem from units distributed in Dec of 2006.
Solution #3 worked for me, but I didn't have to format the MP3 disk. I started it in HOLD mode with my USB cord plugged into an XP computer. (I made a backup of the songs to a folder on my computer, but not sure if I needed to.) When I unplugged the USB port it said 'please wait, rebuilding the library'. Once it was done I took it out of HOLD mode and it worked like it should.
I purchased 2 and sent them over seas as gifts at christmas and they froze. I picked them up when i went over seas several months later and returned them to sansa. They replaced them -- so far no issues.

This is my SECOND one... and its doing the SAME thing!! i'm really mad! i got the first one for christmas 2006 and it worked fine for a week then it froze and i brought it back to wal-mart and they exchanged it. NOW, i dont have a reciept or all the accessories it came with... they better let me return it. i saw online that they are now about $49 or so and my parents paid $90 for it. well off to the store... i feel your pain

This issue may be due to some sort of corruption on the Sansa m240 itself. We should try formatting the Sansa m240 as a possible solution. Caution: Formatting will erase all information on the Sansa mp3 player. Please be sure to have a back up of all the information before proceeding. If your Sansa m240 is currently frozen, please remove the battery (to unfreeze it), then put it back in, and connect it to your Windows XP computer. Since you cannot access your Sansa m240 to convert to MSC mode, please have the ?HOLD? button ?ON? so that you can have your Sansa m240 in MSC mode before plugging to your computer. To format the Sansa m240 on your PC, let us connect the Sansa m240 to your computer on an USB port preferably located near the power hub or to an external self powered USB hub, go to ?My Computer?, single right click on the ?Removable Disk? associated with your Sansa m240, and select ?Format?. From everything I've found, you (and I) have two choices- return it and get a different model/manufacturer or pull out the glue gun and make a tie tack out of it. I got my money back and am now researching which player to get. Donzo
It's a nasty software bug - I highly suggestion going to Sansa's website and registering a support case. It takes about ten minutes. Although I haven't rec'd a reply yet - if I don't by Monday noon - it goes back to BestBuy for a refund. I had a feeling a bargin MP3 players was going to bite me later. I spent 3 hours in line at best buy for this too... that makes it a double wammy. :(
Well, we have the same situation with my daughter's new player. Guess the company needs to do a little work! Looks like there is no fix for the problem.
My 10 yr old step son's m240 worked for a day then developed the same problem stated above. I've taken the batteries out, pushed every combination of buttons possible, etc. It goes back with plans for a replacement Xmas present.
Same here after 4 days of use. Had about 700MB of MP3s installed. Powers on from power button or when attached to computer but freezes on SANSA screen. Computer doesn't see the player.

Same problem after two days. Tried taking battery out and holding down power button for several minutes. No luck. She's going back to Wal-Mart tomorrow. Daughter has had one for a couple of months with no problem, though.

Same thing happened to us within the first 3-4 hours of using it, it locked up. We took it back and got another model after seeing the trouble people like you .. and I had.
My has the same freaking problem and it making me so freaking mad! I turned it off and about an hour later i tried to turn it on and i keeps freezing on the sansa logo! gah i am so mad

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3
Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa
players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do
not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues -
they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes,
flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.
Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the
computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull
down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor
over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow
underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary
slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware
upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in
the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have
the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to

If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off,
hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer
while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button
for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into
recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says
Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods
to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE
shutting down your computer.

Was working fine. Turned it off. Went to turn it back on. BLANK screen. Nothing. Tried hooking it up with the USB cable and no screen. Left it and the Sansa MP2 got hot to the touch. Circle lights up blue but nothing on screen. Can't find manual and have no clue which model this is. Thanks.

My Sansa does EXACTLY the same thing! It goes to the intital Sansa logo/screen, and then no further. And it won't turn off! I have to take the battery back out to get it to turn off.
