I had purchased it almost 9 months back,it reads dvds fine and burns them too,but it cannot read cd or burn it.When i insert a cd,it shows nothing in the drive,but when clicked on the properties,it shows the CD in the drive to be full.

sounds like a software problem since DVD,s are read and wrote fine.....Reinstall burner prog GL

your DVD ROM lens has became weak.
and it cannot be repaired.
But
if you manage to open the DVD ROM clean the dust in it & it will
start working again but be careful remember that no power should be
attached to ROM.
or you can buy a lens cleaner from market and try that.

in dvd writer cd's are not playing but i dvd's are playing
