Canon ZR90 sound but no picture

I can't get any pictures on either card or tape on my camera--tho do get sound.  Yes, the lens cap is off. ;-)   Think my son may have dropped it before the problem occurred as there is a divot around the lens.
It's a few years old but hasn't been used much, would hate to lose the camera if it can be fixed.
Thanks for your help!Rebecca

If it has indeed been dropped, then sadly it is probably beyond economic repair

Take the memory card out and you will see a little notch on the side. You should be able to push that up or down to lock or unlock it

Try a cleaning tape. Buy a good quality cleaning tape (Panasonic makes one) and remember: cleaning tapes are abrasive so don't overuse it! Overuse can result in the need to replace the rotating drum assy in the camcorder. I'll bet a cleaning tape takes care of your problem.

SOURCE: Canon A720 IS does not turn on

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try. You can skip the battery comments and focus on the other suggestions in the article:

Over the holiday I was taking pictures of the family with my canon powershot pro 1. When I went to review them I got a memory card error. I was able to recover the pictures but I get the memory card e

I don't think it has anything to do with the lens Converter. Sometimes errors occur on a memory card. Now you recovered your pictures feel free to format your card in the PC, with FAT32 format. Then try putting it back in the camera. Please check the cardholder if anything is in there, like a little piece of paper or dust. Would be great if you had another card to check if the card was wrong or the camera has an issue.

My canon camera powershot SD 780 IS always shows "card locked" when I turn it on to take a picture even though I check to see that the card is not locked before inserting it in the...

Put a small piece of tape over the switch on the card and re-insert it. If the camera now functions properly, the "feeler" in the camera may be malfunctioning. Don't think the tape solution is a permanent fix....the tape will eventually come off inside the camera causing more problems.

My problem is im trying to record and i have the camera switched to tape and have it turned on to camera and it records sound but will not record picture, but will play back other tapes on the screen ok.I...

If the iris is opening to let light in, that light is not being changed to a picture signal or that picture signal is not
going into the camera circuits, What you see in the viewfinder is what is being recorded, Make sure that no cables have been left plugged in to the camera and turn the power on and off several times, I have seen the iris stick when cameras were not used for a while. The iris is inside or behind the lens and closes completely when you turn the camera off, If it is stuck, SOMETIMES it will open with repeated tries of turning it off and on or even removing the battery and putting it back in. And maybe it is just the vibration of opening and closing the battery compartment door or the slight vibrations of pushing the power button repeatedly. If it sticks once, it will stick again. This is not a repair, just a way to get those one time pictures' before.

I have a canon zr90 camcorder and I just bought a Sony SDHC card for it, 16GB, it keeps prompting a card read error and im not sure why. Can anyone help?

I myself have been looking into buying a larger card for my zr90 as well. What I believe your problem might be is the camera does not support a SD card that big. The HC stands for High Capacity and the camera probably cannot read it. I'm still searching for the largest capacity card to use, I would guess it is going to max out around 2GB. Hope this helps!

Erasing the tape on a sony handycam vision please

Well the cheapest way is to go into record mode, cap the lens with the black lens cap and record a 'black' picture on the tape. This will erase all the pictures on the tape and leave you with a 'black' screen on the whole tape.

Colored, pixilated bars appear during playback

It is very common when the magnetic heads got dirty. Buy a Mini DV cleaning tape, follow the instruction clean the heads by playing the cleaning tape for a while. Record NEW video and playback to test.
Please know if you play the old video recorded buy the dirty heads, you may not get clear picture, because here is not correct data recorded on the tape.
