Connecting samsung home theater to samsung lcd tv and direct tv

I am trying to hook up a Samsung A650 52" TV and a Samsung HTX710 Home theater using our Direct TV HD box. I can use the DTV remote to change channels but cannot use the DTV, TV or the Home theater remote for sound. I have hooked up an HDMI cable from the TV to the DTV box. I also hooked up a Digital Audio Optical cable from the DTV box to the Home theater. Still no Volume control. Seems like the home theater remote does not control the home at all.

Need to get more granular on this, Does the volume work HT remote, for like radio, cd, ipod audio? For you to use the tv audio through the HTB the tv's audio settings should be on the "fixed" output option. This gives a line level to the Amp independant of the tvs volume adhjustment. Otherwise you will need to adjust tvs volume 75% or so before the audio amp will reproduce a good volume. Turn down audio amp prior to making any adjustments. Let me know thx

Best way to connect new system

After trying several ways, we decided the best picture was to run the blue ray (out) directly to the TV (in) with an HDMI and another HDMI from the sat. box(out) to TV(in), then optical audio from TV (out) to receiver (in). This way you don't have to change channels on the reciever when switching from TV to DVD. Remember that HDMI is one cable that supports audio and video. If you are using all Samsung products and want to use one remote, using the Anynet feature, I think it has to be connected with an HDMI. I'm going to try connecting an HDMI too from the reciever to the TV to see if this feature will work. It does with the Blue Ray.

Hooking up home theater

Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.

Connect the Home cinema and the TV with the HDMI cable. When you turn it on, first turn on the TV and then the home cinema. I hope this works.
