First, identify the NIC you wish to change; use:

$ MC LANCP <ret>

> SHOW DEVICE

Next, use the menu driven utility "TCPIP$CONFIG", to set your desired IP address etc:

$ @TCPIP$CONFIG <ret>

Option 1 - core environment

Option 2 - Interfaces (then select your NIC or the IP Addr to change)

Option 2 - add/change a Primary address on *** (where *** is your NIC).

SOURCE: DS10 with SBS PCI Expansion

Version 7.1-2 is an older version of the OS. I will have to check, but I think that V7.2 will resolve this. What version of TCP/IP are you using? Back in the day when I supported TCP and VMS, there were some timing issues that causes odd behavior. If you can provide the details about your configuration, I can check and get back to you. If necessary, an examination of a forced crashdump may be needed.

A rare opportunity to work with VMS again!!

Good stuff.

open vms was ported to ALph chips. 1992

so it's an 17 year old OS.
