While watching a program, my Sony tv screen went black. I could still hear it just fine. I called Sony....they had me reset the tv back to factory etc......nothing. Has anyone had the same issues? Is it worth trying to get fixed? Any answers would be appreciated.

You likely have bad solder connections around the tuner area. This model has a history of problems in that area or the tuner itself.

It sounds like you are going to need to have the convergence IC's replaced. Not really a hard job, but the job requires the proper tools, soldering skills, and a service manual to get the proper part numbers and to perform convergence alighnment in the service menu after the IC's are replaced. Good Luck

Check soldered in fuse R607 in power supply circuit =
If open, replace it and bad converter xistors ( 2SC4834)
Next, replace shorted horizontal output transistor w/ first Quality.
Solder any / all bad connects, esp.horiz drive to base of horiz.
o / p xistor. Soldering is critical or it will blow up again......

I would take that puppy back to store and get exchanged out. According to lemon law. Let me know what happens. Thank you Jay.

Hi, IK circuit is engaging which basically means the picture tube is getting tired, the only "fix" is temporary (may get another year out of it). You have to increase the "screen control clockwise".
Remove back of set, follow large black or red wire attatched to picture tube down to the flyback transformer, mounted on flyback are two black controls, one is focus (leave it alone) the other is "screen", adjust it clockwise approx. 1/4 inch, remember that this is a high voltage circuit so use one hand in the set the other hand out of the set at all times, any questions ? e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider
