In cubase go to "Devices", there select "Device Setup", in the Device Setup windows go to "VST Audio System", on the top right you will see the "ASIO Driver" drop down menu, click it and select your sound card from the list. Also take a look into VST Connections.

remove all the unnecessory startup items
reinstall the chipset driver

use the digitally signed xp drivers. will work fine

hi, this may help a little. it sounds a bit like the drivers are not installed correctly.
i would go into computer management and c if you can remove it.
then reboot the machine
insurt the flash and it may then install the drivers again
but it does have to be removed in managment first.

if it was a rights issue it would also not allow you to install the drivers correctly but assuming the pc is yours then its not likely

i have a similar setup (Cubase LE & Tascam 144) and each time i start up Cubase i have to make sure there is no digital input going to the tascam. once cubase is started up but no project loaded i plug in my spdif from my DAT machine and then open my project and all is fine. does that answer part of your question?

i have a different problem though, i'm trying to record my DAT tapes which are recorded at 32khz and cubase doesn't recognize that sample rate properly. it'll record no problem, and play them back fine, but exporting always creates mismatched sample rates in the exported file. sucks big time and i have got no idea on how to fix it either.

have you checked to see if the inputs are the Tascam
and the outputs are the Tascam i had the same issue when i first got it have a look in them settings and just see if there the defaults

do u have usb 2.0 prts in back use not front of pc those 1.1 ports ok cheak drivers on all tell your master sound drivers defult to tascam see what happends

what os are you using

does the laptop have a built in mic.??? if not your going to need a mic. also, make shure the mic is connected to the rite jack, there should be three, and only one works... Good luck!
