Phone has dial tone, but does not ring or dial numbers

take the phone to a friends/neighbours and plug in to test for a dial tone
if no tone , have the phone fixed
if there is a dial tone call the service provider and ask for a repair to your line

I gather you have the setting for tone and pulse set to tone? Also are you aware the ringing tone is generated by the phone company? When you dial a number and it connects, the phone provider sends the ring signal to the dial phone and the ringing signal to the dialing phone. Do you get a dial tone before dialing?

If you have another phone connect it to the wall outlet to see if you get a dial tone. This will indicate if your base unit is faulty.
Check the power adapter to the base unit, make sure it is getting mains power.
If the base unit has dual phone lines and if line 1 is only connected and the line 2 has beed selected then you cannot get a dial tone. In the chase press the line 1 to get a dial tone.
If your base unit has only one line then check the phone line at the wall socket make sure it is plugged in tight, also check the the connection at the base unit.
If this does not work then ring the phone company and get the to test your phone line, you may have a faulty line to your home.

Creating Phonebook Entries To store names and numbers in your Phonebook, please follow these steps: When the phone is in standby mode, press [phonebook icon] (on the left side of the four-way key). To create a new phonebook entry, press the NEW soft key. Edit Name appears. Enter the name for this entry (Edit Name). Use the keypad to enter a name for this entry; the name can contain up to 1 6 characters. (See page 1 1 for instructions on entering text.) If you do not want to enter a name for this entry, your phone will store this entry as No Name. Press the OK soft key when you are finished. Enter the number for this entry (Edit Number 1). Once you have stored a name, EDIT NUMBER1 appears next. it's not sending a signal to the phone service check your phone lines for proper connection

dial tone but mobiles ahve no dial tone when making or receiving calls.....

if there is no dial tone that means that the connection is not being made when you pick up the phone hence you cannot answer nor can you get a dial tone
the fact that the phone rings indicates that the land line is good so the fault is in the phone itself

The problem was the main phone line not the phone itself

IT IS DUE TO NETWORK FAILURE OF THAT LINE
