If you are sure that the software is properly loaded, its just a matter of physical connection. Please double check the physical connection specially the coax port of the TV tuner. Maybe its too deep that your coax from cable is not contacting or not reaching the contacts. Try to push it more and lock it tightly.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, update both the driver and the applications from here. From the same page, If you want to use WinTV to watch and record analog cable TV with Microsoft's Media Center application under Windows XP or Windows Vista, do the following:

  • When you run Media Center, go to Tasks / Settings / TV / Set Up TV signal
  • At 'Set Up your TV signal', click Next
  • At "Regional settings', make sure your region is correct and click Next
  • At 'Download TV options', click Next.
  • At "TV Signal', click 'I will configure my TV signal manually' and click Next
  • You will then see: Cable / Satellite / Antenna. Chose the source of your TV signal (Cable for use with analog cable TV) and click Next.
  • Click through the rest of the settings, set up your Guide listings and click Finish. Then return to the main menu.
  • Go to TV + Movies and then live TV to watch and record TV.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    A few more:

        Try setting the primary application (start/programs/Hauppauge WinTV/Primary) to "VMR 7" or "Allow Overlay" to correct the problem;

        For WinTV, you can also try the different modes available in the Primary program (Start/Programs/Hauppauge WinTV/Primary);

        Try updating the VGA drivers to correct the problem.

        If you are running Vista 64 bit and have 4GB of memory or higher installed in the system, you will need to download and install the latest drivers here.http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/su...

Sir, that tv tuner is included with antenna or if not you should have an antenna or cable on the interface at the back of your device so that it can get frequency or viewable on your computer. Just maker sure you installed it correctly and look for the fine tuning after installing the antenna.

thank you for using fixya

    There might be a fault in the video output of the board and you may need it repaired by a professional. Check to see if you can see any visible damage to it and check for any thing burnt around the video part. If visible damage is there, you may need a new board. It may be past repair but if possible, try and get it to a repair shop.

I have a HP Media Center PC 470n. Is there another card just for that PC. I have the wintv- hvr 1600,not as happy as I thought I would be.

You can use any capture card you want as long as you have a slot on the mother board. Media Center works with almost every capture card.
Having said that, i found hauppauge a great capture device what was it you didnt like?

Xp media center says no ntsc tuner installed

Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

No Audio with WinTV-HVR-1600 when tuning on S-Video

okay after more reading I found I needed to hook up the A/V output on my camcorder to my line-in input on the capture card (WinTV-hvr-1600) and now audio is working!

WinTV-HVR-1600 Tuner card to DishNetwork receiver

Yes, but what it can connect to depends on what Dish DVR you have. The newer, HD ones only have HDMI, S-Video, and that 5-split coax as outputs for the main TV since you only get these box's if you have and HDTV.

This is because regular old coaxial is no longer good enough for them. This means you must connect the newer DVR's to the S-Video input on the Hauppauge1600 since it is the only input to the card the Dish DVR supports.

If your DVR is older and has the coax out, you can use that and connect it to the Hauppauge analog input.

Problem installing WinTV HVR 1600

It just means that it is not not registered to work with windows by microsoft.
The manufacturer doesnt have to work with Microsoft to make their products work.

If possible you can go ahead with the installation. To be safe set a restore point before doing so, though

Wintv stuttering when watch channel, but is fine when record it

Further update: Have downloaded SageTV, and it works fine with the Hauppage card. Is definitely a software problem. Have also tried total uninstall, reinstall, with same results. Also downloaded GBPVR, and it also worked with the card.
