Sounds like you need a carb cleaning. Also install some Seafoam gas additive in your gas tank to clean out the gunk that builds up. Do not use ethanol gas.

You may not need to change the ignition module. The "air-gap" on it may just need to be adjusted. That is, the distance between the pickup legs of the ignition module and the magnets integrated into the flywheel. You would have to remove the exterior cover and any sheet metal cowling (directs air flow off the flywheel around the engines cylinder). Then, the coil and flywheel should be visible. I use a standard business card as a gauge. Slide it between the coil legs and the magnet area of the flywheel. You should feel just a slight little rub. If it won't slide or the gap is large, no spark will be produced. You will have to loosen the screws holding the coil in place, double up the card. let the magnets pull the legs in against the card with magnets behind and retighten. Then recheck for spark. Post back if needed.

SOURCE: I have a Toro GTS5 Super Recycler mower model

Hi ricks7...
I also believe that it is a problem with the jets.
Try some of these solutions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
Also make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

Mower starts good but only runs 5 minutes befor stalling out and won't start again until cool. It idles OK when blade is NOT engaged. Cause? And how do you set the carb adjustment screws to max. p

No adjustment for carb on newer mowers. All mowers now have a low oil cutoff. Ensure oil is full. 30w oil. If any grey is observed vin oil drain all oil. Moisture in oil. Dump old oil out every 2 yrs and refill. Ensure spark pluf is clean and gapped correctly. Ensure air filter is clean. Replace spark plug and air filter each year. Always use Stabile in gas. Spray outside of carb with carb cleaner to ensure proper choke movement.

Toro recycler mower won't stay running

take apart the carb float and clean it out, then take apart the rest of the carb and spray cleaner through it. sounds like you might have some old gas turned to jelly in your carb thats plugging it too much for the typical pressures inside the carb to **** through

After priming engine stops after about 10 seconds Toro 22 in recycler model 20070

Your lawn mower is not meant to be run on fuel that contains ethanol. To fix your problem you have to remove the carburator and take it apart, get some carburetor cleaner the one with the plastic tube for spraying with pressure work over a small bowl or container spray the carburator through all of its ports and openings clean the carburetor till there is no build up ( build up usually apperars as discoloration on the metal then pour some carb cleaner into the container and let it soak. after soaking over night put the carburetor back together and reinstall with new gaskets as the ones that go to the block are usually hard and will tear just enought to let air in after putting together add a fuel additive to your gas they sell it at any Home and Garden store this will keep the ethanol from turning to gum again. When putting the lawn mower up for the season drain the fuel system or add extra additive to the fuel and prime it through the carb. This will solve your problems ,just make sure that you keep track of the way the diaghrams come out of the carb and put them back in the same order

Hi - I have a Toro Super Recycler # 20042. Been running great for a long time till today. Now it seems that the engine runs about half as fast as it used to. From what I can tell there are no adjustment...

since you have the cover off, clean and spray the governor linkage with WD40, Often there is a lot of
dirt and grass restricting the movement or airflow to the plastic vane that controls the throttle, this has to move freely in order to engine speed, be sure to clean the inside of the cover, always check the flywheel shear pin, if it is bent even slightly, replace it.this pin keeps the engine in time, therefore if the pin is not perfect the timing suffers, poor operation, hard starting etc
One other thing to check is the choke operation, does it open fully after the engine starts?clean with carb cleaner.

My toro mower will not start now after it has sat all winter

Make sure you have spark..pull plugs and roll over and look for blue spark, next smell for gas or see if plugs are wet....if they are wet its flooded with old gas which is not very combustable, remove air cleaner and put spark plugs in and spray some carb cleaner in the throat of carb and see if it fires, now if that works then you may have to check the needle and seat and the solenoid on bottum of carb if either one of these are stuck you will not get gas to the carb to run, hope this does it for you! don't forget to reply !

I have a Toro 22" Recycler Mower. Never had problems starting before til now. Have gas, oil level fine, new filter and spark plug. Why not start

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray withcarb.cleaner.

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:

Just let me know.

I have a toro-recycler. it is about four years old and has always run great-until now..it shut off in the middle of the yard and wont re-start. i put in fresh gas/sea-foam, new plug, and air cleaner..it is...

It sounds as if the gas cap may be clogged. It must be able to breathe so that the carburetor gets the proper gas flow. Does it run for about 10-15 minutes? If so, this is more than likely your problem.

Toro recycler will run until primed gas is consumed.

The problem is that the gas that sat in the carb all winter glazed it over and gummed it up. Begin by going to any auto parts store, like an aiutozone, and getting a bottle of carb. cleaner. Seafoam is one I use. Add it to your gas, one ounce per gallon of gas. Also, pick up a can of engine starting spray.

Remove the air filter and spray the engine starting spray into the air intake. Pull start the engine and give it additional squirts of engine starting spray until it runs smoothly.
