60 gb ps3 motherboard

Well I reheat the PS3 motherboard but after a while the thing gives out even after applying a new coat of Thermal paste. The motherboard has also been through a few power surges sadly to say. But every time I reheat the motherboard it seems to work once again. Should I replace the motherboard.

When you reflow the chip do you put the copper plate in after as if you have to keep reflowing the chip sounds like you have not fitted it. its a copper square plate. heatsink paste on both sides and screw down after resinked.

SOURCE: can't connect ps3 internet

using a wireless router you may need to drop your firewall to connect to the internet on ps3. you definately need a dsl connection and a playstation network account which can be attained at www.playstation.com (Note: some wireless routers have built in firewalls which in some cases cannot be turned off)
if you are using a standard Cat 5 connection through a dsl modem you should be able to connect by plugging in PS3 instead of computer from DSL modem via Cat 5 to PS3. Then setup your system (PS3) for your specific connection.

SOURCE: Surge protector shuts off while playing PS3

swap to another surge protector. if it still does it, it is a power surge at the outlet, if it does not, the Surge Proctector has worn out. have someone with the appropriate knowlege have a look at the outlet as well. older outlets especially tend to wear to the point where the plug literally falls out of the wall.

SOURCE: error 800100a

If you receive an eight digit 800 series error code, there may be a few solutions.

Update the System Software.

Visit Playstation 3 System Software Update to download and install the most recent version.

To check what version of the System Software is currently installed on your PLAYSTATION 3:

1. From the XMB home menu, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information].

2. The system will display the System Software version number.

Power-Cycle all Network Equipment

Power-cycle means to turn the networking devices OFF (i.e., unplug it from the power source), and then to turn it back ON after a set period of time. This will allow the network devices to refresh its settings.

Please power-cycle ALL of your network equipment, including any wireless access points, routers, Voice Over IP (VOIP) modems, and broadband modems for two (2) full minutes. After 2 minutes, you can turn on (or plug in) your equipment.

Check Your Enviroment

  • Make sure to allow adequate ventilation to flow from the PLAYSTATION 3's vents (i.e., avoid obstructing the vents with long/shaggy carpet, inadequate airflow from cramped entertainment cabinet setups, etc.).

  • Make sure to keep the PLAYSTATION 3 away from excessive dust, smoke, steam, extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.

  • See the PLAYSTATION 3 system Safety and Support manual for full details on Safety Precautions and Use and Handling (manual included with the PLAYSTATION 3 system and available for download from PLAYSTATION 3 Manuals)

Restore Default Settings

During certain troubleshooting situations, it may be necessary to restore all of the PLAYSTATION 3 system settings back to their original "default" configuration.

  1. From the XMB home menu, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Restore Default Settings].

  2. Once you select [Restore Default Settings], you will see a list of settings that will be restored. Scroll through them and press the (X) button to restore the settings.

  3. After the operation is complete, you will see the initial setup screen that appeared the first time you turned on the PLAYSTATION 3.
You will need to go through the initial setup screen before you can use the PLAYSTATION 3.
IMPORTANT
The Restore Default Settings feature will erase any previously saved settings and restore all of the following settings to the default:
  • BD/DVD Settings
  • Music Settings
  • Chat Settings
  • System Settings
  • Date and Time Settings
  • Accessory Settings
  • Display Settings
  • Sound Settings
  • Security Settings
  • Network Settings
  • Internet Browser Settings
Also, do not confuse "Restore Default Settings" with the "Restore PS3 System" option (the next option down on the menu). The "Restore PS3 System" will not only restore the default settings, but it will also delete all hard disk content (You will lose all saved content from your PS3 system's hard drive if you use "Restore PS3 System.

If all these fixes fail to work you can contact sony at:

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: My 60 GB PS3 wont run PS2 games

Actually only 60GB PS3s supports PS2 games. But It requires particular firmware. In first instance try updating your system, then dissable the disc autoload function, insert PS2 game, and look at the game section if your soft will recognise it. If yes just try to play

Good luck

After playing a disc for a few minutes, my Ps3 starts making a noise --constant low whirring sound as if the fan is on overdrive. Any idea as to what might be causing it?

if you have any of these gb consoles these are the first ps3s 20gb 40gb 60gb 80gb.okay these consoles are all dying.see when sony made these they did lead free solders for the cpu and gpu and they used crappy thermal paste on these processors.so now when your ps3 gets to hot or just old it heats up so bad that these solders melt and cpu or gpu come off motherboard its called ylod ur ps3 is in the process of going down at this point u can do nothing for it its pretty much done.u could try replacing thermal paste it may help but i think the damage is to far along to repair if u have the new models like the 160gb slim or 250gb or 320gb then i wouldnt worry about it.

MY PS3 WILL SHOW A GREEN SCREEN BUT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING

The thermal paste has melted from your PS3's CPU, causing it to overheat, which causes "The Matrix Effect" . The CPU is probably dead. If you can re-seat the heatsink with fresh thermal paste yourself, go for it. It may or may not work. If you are rich, send it in to Sony. If not, and your system is not under warranty, you're out of luck. Sell it on eBay for parts, and use that cash for a new PS3. Parts PS3's go for $40 - $60 on eBay, depending on how broken they are.

MY PS3 60GB TURNS ON,GOES TO MAIN MENU FOR A MINUTE THEN FAN SPINS VERY FAST AND SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN OVERHEATING, IVE REFLOWED AND PASTE HEAT PLATES BUT STILL THE SAME.. COULD IT BE THE HEAT PLATES NEED...

Although you have re-flowed the motherboard and applied thermal paste, it is unlikely re-applying the thermal paste will fix the overheating problem in this case. All I can say is that you made sure the thermal paste layer was very thin, and was in between the CPU and GPU and the heat sinks. It doesn't matter if you put paste on the heat sink or the CPU/GPU, as long as it makes a good contact between them. Too much paste will have the opposite effect of cooling as it actually acts as an insulator when the layer is too thick. Do not try and get the heat plates off of the CPU/GPU as you will probably cause more damage than good. Try it once more with a very thin even layer of paste between only the CPU and GPU and the heat sinks and see if it helps. If not, don't just bin the console! Even in its current state you can sell it on ebay for up to £100. The 60Gb consoles are very sought after due to their backwards compatibility and if the blu ray player is still working then that is even better!

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

While i was playing the ps3 shut down and after i turn it in again it shows me that message "the system was not turned off properly ..

You are experiencing the beginning stages of YLOD (yellow light of death). This will get worse and worse usually and will eventually not be able to be turned on. I was one of a few people that was successful in repairing YLODS and keeping it from breaking again. It requires stripping the system down barebone to the motherboard. Taking the motherboard and putting it into the oven 410 degrees for 7 minutes. Letting it cool and reheat for another 4 minutes while taking precautions. Then get thermal compound (arctic silver) and apply evenly on the 2 main chips. Then reassemble and hope for the best. There are other instructions involving heat guns, but that method is short lived. Please do this at your OWN RISK! Hope this helps!

Trying to play ps3, it turns on, green light comes on, then goes to red, then shuts back off

Sounds like you have what's called the yellow light of death. YLOD. This is caused by your system overheating and two chips on your motherboard being unsoldered. It's a somewhat easy fix if you aren't afraid of opening up your system all the way to your main board. There are video tutorials on youtube. I'm guessing your system is the backward compatible 60 gb CECHA01 model? Other options are sending it to sony and paying $150 for them to fix it. Or finding a local repair shop for hopefully cheaper. I fixed mine and it cost me $10 for new thermal paste, that's it.

Ps3 keeps shutting down

The problem you are facing currently could be due to oveheating problem that your console could be encountering, also check if you get any yellow flashing light or red flashing light when the console powers up and shuts down after 20 seconds

Dust is an electronics killer and the PS3 is no different. The first thing to try would be just taking your PS3 outside and blowing some compressed air through the bottom vents and around the PS3.

If this only works for some time and doesn't eliminate the problem you'll have to open your PS3 and clean the Thermal Compound off the CPU and GPU and then re-apply.

This process is relatively safe but you've got to be careful nonetheless. Try searching youtube for guides on this, but do this step only if you are confident, else please send it for repairs to Sony Customer Support

Looking for a PS3 60GB model motherboard for replacement

You can't just replace the motherboard, the blu-ray is tied to the motherboard number, so if you put in a new motherboard it won't read blu-ray games anymore. Check http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html to find out how it is tied to the motherboard.
