Video not found after finalizing disc on Samsung SC-DC164 DVD Camcorder

Just purchased a Panasonic DVD-R to record my daughter's first Christmas Carol. I used the Samsung SC-DC164 camcorder. The manual book said that the disc needs to be finalized before inserting the disc into the DVD player,so i did and it was saying "finalizing" and then "complete". So I took the disc out and tried to play it on my DVD player but it reads "disc error". I even tried it on a PC, but no luck. Is there any other way that I could retrieve my video from the disc since the disc is stated that the video cannot be erased since it's a DVD-R? Please help.

Put it back in the Camera and see if it tells you the disc is finalized when it tries to format the disc. If it does then you know for sure it is finalized..

Write error

I had the same problem. Called Samsung, they told me not to use DVD+R DL discs (despite their presence in the compatibility table in the manual). They also said DVD+R discs don't need finalizing, which contradicts the manual. I can't get them to play in my PC. For the first two discs I tried, it seemed to get write errors halfway through the disc, as if it had trouble with the second layer. I didn't record long enough on the third to find out. The camcorder still shows video on the third disc, but I can't finalize it and it won't play on my PC. Glad I'm only borrowing this camera. Won't buy a Samsung, and probably won't buy a DVD cam.

DVD Camcorder appears to have erased disc mid record!

I know it won't play in a dvd player till it is finalized. Leave it in camera mode, hit menu, and scroll down till you see the option to finalize. If you finalize it, it should play in a dvd player. I am having a problem with my camera(same model) where it won't finalize the disc. Any help out there?
