Schematic patio heater sunjoy g ph018pss

You will not be able to blow through a gas valve when it's disconnected. You may have air in the lines which would cause the pilot to go off when knob is released if not held in long enough. Try lighting again. Once the pilot lights - hold knob in for 5 minutes then release. Try twice, if pilot will not stay lit it's probably the thermal coupler. (metal prong right next to flame of pilot burner.)

do you have the pilot light burning if not then you have to get in burning first
Put knob in pilot position push down and hold for at least 30 seconds or longer then if there is an igniter push and release it push and release till pilot light comes on .Continue to hold pilot light button down for another 10 seconds or so, release pilot button and turn button to on or up a number or set T stat
Main flame should come on and burn

How do i light pilot light?

Remove front cover,or just lower section if you can. they usually just need to be lifted up about an inch or so and pulled out. However some have covers that snap in place. After you remove cover locate gas valve. It should have a control knob on top with markings for on, off, and pilot. Set control to pilot. Follow lines from gas valve to burner compartment, one goes to main burner one ,small copper colored line is the thermocouple, other line is the pilot. Turn thermostat down as far as it will go. Make sure gas supply valve in line to heater is on and then depress pilot control , when you have pilot control depressed have a match or other small flame source close to pilot assembly. If it lights then hold down on pilot control for a couple of mins. Slowly release pilot control and if it stays lit turn gas control to on. Turn thermostat up to call for heat and burner should light. If pilot doesn't stay lit when you release pilot control then try again holding pilot down longer. If it still won't stay lit then thermocouple will need replace. Good luck. Thanks

Pilot lights but goes off when releasing valve to turn on

i would suspect defective thermopile or obsruction in pilot assembly that prevents pilot flame from hitting thermopile . check pilot flame characteristics, should be blue and stiff.if it is yellowish that would indicate blockage.use multimeter to determine voltage output. you need about 100mv to maintain pilot and around 400mv to operate control valve

My heater will not burn unless you hold the knob in once release it shut off

Are you getting the pilot light to work? some gas valves are finicky about where the knob is positioned when trying to light the pilot.
