How To Replace Backlight Display On Roland VS 1680

vs1680 you mean.?, and is 20 years old and all things that old need repairs. cars, computers etc.
you posted a music keyboard to computers, and is off topic.
no photo of display failing, not clues there.
you said black did you mean the LCD BACK lighting, spelled wrong.?
if yes it needs a new display to fix most of those.
a shop looks inside for separate back lamps and if non there
a new DISPLAY is needed.

If it's just dim, you probably only need a new backlight, which you can buy from http://www.telesisgear.com/id16.html
It's pretty simple to do, but obviously you have to be comfortable dis-assembling the unit and doing minor soldering. They provide instructions with the part.

The last time i used a VS-1680 was probably over 7 years ago, but if memory serves me right the only way of taking the tracks of to a pc, was by using an spdif line out to the pc and recording them that way, which if i remember right was a dog slow process as you were limited in how many tracks you could record at a time. there is an old forum i used to frequent with a guy quoting this

the unit is going south time to buy a new 1 [it has a bad display panel]

there is a bulb in the display to backlight it..it probably burned out.

no solution from me but if you want to sell your MV 30 I would love to buy as I have one with a working screen but a non-working floppy drive

They might need to do an update from their end.
