I can't find how to adjust the length of time the back-light stays on, at the moment it lasts around 10 seconds but I really want the light to stay on a lot longer - even permanently because it's really annoying when writing or reading text & the light just keeps going out!
I have even been to my local o2 shop but no one seems to be able to help - not even the users manual!

Please call your current service provider to get network unlock code(NUC).
They will get your personal information to cross check with the database which they have.If they are satisfied with your infomration they will provide you the NUC code.

Yes, the backlight of the Nokia 6500 Classic does not stay on long enough for an old codger like me. User manual offers no assistance.
It is apparently NOT adjustable according to my network provider!!
Checked it out and Motorolaman is right. The 6500 Classic backlight problem cannot be fixed - as yet. But Nokia do listen and if enough users ask them nicely, they might just fix it. - Tony Tomtom
I cannot even read a phone number before the screen goes off. I cannot get the phone to connect with PC so no backups. I cannot get the volume loud enough. I'm stuck on a 2 year contract with this loathsome piece of junk!
I too have this problem, it is very frustrating on such a relatively "high end' model. My better half also has this with her nokia 2630, may be forced to try another brand if they don't pull their finger out to do something to reslovr this problem soon
