Tape deck won't eject tape

With tape access door opened properly, tape deck won't eject tape (with power on or off). I can hear it trying, but without success. Suggestions?

  • steve lloyd Dec 20, 2006

Thanks. I should have pointed out that there is no tape in the deck. It just won't open. It tries, but stops, then beeps, indicating a problem. Other suggestion?

Put the power switch in the off position and close the tape door. Pull the battery off. Pull the power cord off. Now plug the power cord in. Wait... Now unplug the power cord. Now plug the power cord in again, wait a sec, and open the eject door. Worked everytime for me. This was the only way I could get mine to fully eject. It won't load a tape to save its life. Its dead to me.. along with all Canon **** devices. Good luck!

The tape might be wrapped around the head or the capstan. The mechanism is delicate so you risk more damage by trying yourself - check with some of the repair shops on the Fixya home page for prices to remove the tape.

MHC1500 Sony tape player is stuck! got deck door open, but tape will not eject. does not appear to be any loose tape. How can I get the tape cassette outf?

Prying the door open is not the first thing that should have been done. The mechanism for the tape transport is having a problem in that it either need service or the belt is too loose. A Technician would open the deck get the mechanism in the stop mode and then eject the tape. Any other way just damages the unit and might make it unrepairable.

Pinch roller stuck in "up" position, eject button won't open door

The very first mistake is to pry a door open. That damages them. You are never to do that. The correct way to get a tape out is to open the unit up and find out why the tape is stuck and then take action to release the door in the normal way- usually it is a loose belt or defective cam motor. As to the Pinch roller there are slide plates and even some pinch rollers had lubrication on them so that may have dried leaving you with a stuck part. The normal order of business is the find out what is stuck and then take action to clean and lubricate the mechanism to return to normal function. The problem with some Pinch Rollers is that there may be a particular spot it needs to be set at. This is true if it has a guide fitted to it. Then you will need either a jig or mirror tape to be able to set it correct again. I can not give any further advice without seeing the unit but this should get you started.

Where can I buy Pioneer CT-W701R Stereo Double Cassette Tape Deck Riemen Belt

If the methods listed in the manual won't open the door, then the tape is not inserted properly. Insert a golf tee in one of the two small holes below the tape door and slightly adjust the position of the tape up, down, or sideways. Then press the eject button and it should open. This will only work if the belt is OK.

When I put my tape in the camcorder and close the metal door, the tape does not go down. but when empty, the tape holder do go down.

Hi, My Sony DCR-HC32 handycam's tape mechanism is giving me some problem. It ejects and the tape deck opens up properly but after putting a tape and closing it, the tape deck does not go in. I tried with or without tape but it doesn't go in. It is still open.
Can you please suggest how it could be fixed?
Thanks,

Can not eject tape

I had same problem, while transferring media from TRV-16 to DVD, tape would not play, then would not eject. This after transferring several tapes to DVD. I tried several things over the last couple months that did not work before finally getting it open today. It did me no good to remove several of the outer panels that were each held by two "tiny" phillips head screws each. Went to the internet, found your post, also found a post that referred me back to SONY page which follows.......

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
"NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required."

After I did this, I could hear a whirring sound when I hit eject, although nothing came out. While the whirring was going on, I pulled up and out with constant pressure and the cassette holder opened. The tape had jammed apparently as the little protective plastic tape guard was jammed partially open when I pulled the cassette out. Good Luck and don't be afraid to put a little pressure on the door if you can hear the door trying to open.

Now I turn to recovering the tape, but having grown up with cassette decks, don't believe it will be a problem.

Denon Dual Cassette Deck DRW-660 will not eject either tape. I put a tape in right side, played a bit, stopped, will not eject. I put another tape in left side, closed, cannot eject. Cannot eject either....

Some dual decks use a common drive belt. It may have become too slack (due to age) to drive mechanism. I am sure its time to change all belts in both decks. This will solve the problem

Tape deck won't open

If this is a deck where the tape slides in horizontally, like most car stereo tape players, you may have a broken or slipping belt. The fact that you "haven't used it in a long time" suggests a worn-out belt.

In my car stereo, the belt slips when it's cold and won't play or eject the tape. After a few minutes, the unit "warms up" and the belt starts turning. Then everything is fine.

I think we both need to replace our belts.
