Kenmore 70 series will not drain or spin

My kenmore 70 series top load washer gets to spin mode and just makes a loud clicking noise ...The unit is about 6-7 years old...
I think it might be a coupler issue..
If it is the coupler do you honestly think I should repair it or just buy a new washer ?

I have the same problem with my 20722 and checked the lid switch, if held in place it will spin. but the plastic casing that the screws went into is broke. How should I fix this?

It sounds like the lid switch. If it ws the coupler the water would drain. Check to see if the lid switch is clicking when you put the lid down. replace the lid switch. You have a great washer. Fairly cheap fix.

I believe these are made by whirlpool and use a rubber coupling to connect the drive motor . they are five dollars and change in half an hour if your half way mechanical.

Kenmore 70 series agitates but does not drain or spin cycle.

If the unit is not draining or spinning it sounds like a lid switch. If the unit is draining but not spining it sounds like a drive coupling.

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
