Re: no audio when connected to tv with s-video cable
Then you need to connect audio, either from an onboard audio port or your audio-out port which you will need an adapter to plug into the audio out then convert to RGA compatable connector which will plug into your tv audio in port

I don't know what kind of tv you have but, receivers can pass video along to the tv but, are not the best way to go. If you have the capability of running your video components dirctly to tv then sound out to receiver, you would get better results. Component video is great, as good as or, better than HDMI, the only advantage to HDMI is the audio but, digital optical for audio is great also. Component video cables can be tricky because you have to make sure the connectors are in all the way. If they are not inserted properly, you probably notice too much blue or green. While watching your cable, try twisting and pushing connectors and see if you notice any change in the color quality
Verify the AUDIO cables from the DVD player to the TV they could be defective (even if new) push the PLUGES firmly so they are correctly seated, play with (shake/move) the AUDIO cables while playing a DVD to see if it's not a loose connection
I agree with the guy from Sony, the reason for this is the HDMI cable should support the transfer of audio and video over the same cable, if your only getting video over it, the cable could be defective, or its possible that you have another cable in the spot where speakers should go that is over riding the HDMI.
What exactly is the HDMI cable plugged into? Is it direct from TV to PS3? If you have a stereo set lying around that supports HDMI - try having it run through that. Is the TV muted? check if you can get sound while watching normal TV channels. Worst comes to worst, use RCA Plugs remembering that the composite video is (yellow) and stereo audio is (white and red). You don't need to connect the composite video, but connect the stereo audio.
If this did not solve the problem, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you once I can =)
Hi, You will have to look at your TV to see what type of interface it has for PC connectivity, this is because there are 2 types of Video out on the laptop, first the s-video and secondly VGA (D-SUB).
I would recommend the VGA connection as the quality of the picture will be much better than s-video, so you will need a male to male VGA cable if your TV takes that interface (a male to male mini stereo cable is also required for audio)
If your TV only supports s-video then you are stuck with that interface until you upgrade your TV.
If you need anymore help in this matter please don't hesitate to post back.
You will need a cord that plus into the headphone jack or speaker out jack on the computer and has rca end to plug into the audio input on the TV.It will look like the one pictured. Please rate this solution.
if it is hooked up with componant, thats the red blue green cables for video, and red white for audio, then you probabily eather dont have the red pluged all the way in, or you have the red audio, and red video---reversed, make sure to check them on the dvd player, and on the tv, if there correct, try using the composit input, that is the yellow red and white
On a dell laptop, the key combo FN F8 cycles through the display options. Laptop screen, External screen, Laptop and External screen at the same time. Try pressing the FN F8 key to get the video to display on both laptop and lcd and the same time. If that doesn't work you can also change the settings on what the laptop does when the lid is closed. Check the power settings in the control panel.
I am confused and might be overlooking something obvious here. SO PLEASE do not think I am being disrespectful!
IF you have everything connected properly, then your television is a separate device, independent of your Sony STR. You should be able to watch the picture with the Sony STR turned OFF.
In turn, you should be able to LISTEN to the Sony STR with the television turned off.
Although it isn't a lot of fun, it might be best to DISCONNECT all the cables (not your speaker wire) and go through the process of reconnecting everything.
