I have a new 50" Insignia HD TV and an LG DVR/VCR combo unit, model LRY-517. I can play VHS tapes and DVDs just fine but despite trying all the different combinations of AV2, Channel 3, Channel 4, etc., cannot get the timer recording to work. I suspect I need to tweak the "modalities" a bit more but frustration is starting to set in and I thought I needed professional help - in more ways than one.
Thank you.
Make sure when you do the process two things: one, a blank tape or If it is a dvd recorder, a blank disk is inserted, in the tape make sure the tab that prevents recording is not broken. Two, before exit the timer recording menu, make sure that there is not a instruction that says "done" or "confirm" or any word meaning that all the steps went through.
My friend you're right, let's do this, take an audio video cable (the one with the 3 colors:red, white for audio and yellow for video) connect them at the output of your cable box, then go to the back of de combo and connect where it says "audio video in", matching the colors of course, try to set the recording timer on AV1 or 2 depending what name has the inputs that you just connected.

Sorry - I didn't state the issue clearly enough. There is nothing wrong with the DVR/VCR or the timer record function. I have had many, many VCRs over the years and in all cases, when I'm trying to timer record, the VCR is on Channel 3 or 4, the TV is on Channel 3 or 4 and the channel is selected on the cable box. Whatever is playing on the selected station is displayed on the TV. Timer recording is then set up and all is well. With the new TV, I cannot see the selected station on the TV. I either get snow or "no signal". As I mentioned, the playing of DVDs or VHS tapes is working fine.
Thanks for your help.
Still not working so let me ask the question this way. If the DVR/VCR combo is connected in such a way that the playing of DVDs and VHS tapes is working fine, does that necessarily mean that recording should work, too? Maybe I'm just picking the wrong option between having the combo unit on Channel 3, AV1, etc., when I want to record something.
Thank you!
