A screw got loose and it busted the MOBO... sold the usable parts, and bought a new computer, because it wasn't worth fixing it.

I have A similar problem with mine as well. I plug the power cord in and the blue led lights up but when I press the power button the front lights come on as we'll as the power led backlight and I can hear the fan turn on and a drive start turning either cd drive or hdd. After sbout 2 seconds it turns off. The light on the power button flickers some times. Also sometimes it even makes it as far as to turn on the display, but not often. Anyways I have taken it apart countless times and everything Looks good in it. I have also don't all of the things you recommended earlier in this thread and non of it helps, what should I do

When you plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoever when you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you was operating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cord is bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the power cord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can put the battery back in and let it charge.

Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory on the bottom of the laptop then remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

  • Ok, of course there's an issue with the motherboard or some component on the motherboard, but trust me, your situation is not unique and there are tons of people who try the steps outlined and their system boots.

  • Yours is more than likely the video card since it does nothing at all. I've had many customers with the same symptoms as yours take it to the GEEKS at the big box store and they tell them they need a new system. They bring it to me and I reflow the graphics card and the system boots.

  • Just because things look good does not mean things are good. If nothing ever posts to the screen when you press the power button to start the boot process, your video card could be the culprit. If that is so it will need to be reflowed. You can't tell by just looking at it. Have you tried removing the heat sink and cpu? Remove the heatsink and cpu then apply a fresh coat of thermal paste on them and see if it boots.

SOURCE: hp probook 4310s bios password

I know some methods to reset bios password.
1. The best and easiest method: Close OS and shut down the electricity power of computer. Open your computer box, take out the cmos battery from the mainboard. Then the bios password will be reset to blank. Put it back after a few minutes.
2. Follow some tutorials. For example the tutorials:
Reset HP / Dell BIOS Password.
Top 3 methods to crack bios password!
3. Use the bios password recovery tool , but that is not free!

So I would suggest you the 1st method. Hope it helps.

My ProBook 4710s won't turn on it has a blackscreen. how can i fix this?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Try to boot the computer in safe mode.check whether it is working.
Boot the computer in advanced option by tapping F8 and select :Disable automatic restart on system failure and restart the system.
It will give an BSOD error code ie:0X000000... something like that.
troubleshoot according to that. post the error code
