No sound

To answer this one, we'll need a lot more information. The following

1. Verify your cable. There's no way to post a picture so we'll try this in text. Looking at the 5-pin DIN (called P1) with the pins to the top, number them 1 through 5 from left to right (regardless of how they may be numbered on a connector as it is unmarked on the cable). Looking at the 8-pin mini DIN (called P2) with the key at the top, number the top row 1 through 3 (left to right in all cases), the middle row 4 through 6 (pin 6 will be the one separated by a gap from the other two), number the bottom row 7 and 8.

Now, make sure that continuity exists. This is how my cable was wired as follows: P1-1 to P2-7, P1-2 to P2-8, P1-3 and P1-4 to P2-6, P1-5 to P2-1. If you do not show that each wire is good, then you either have a damaged cable or audio is not being output by the Bose control unit or your system uses a different cable wiring, which means that you will need to verify that your cable connects each 5 pin DIN to some on the 8 pin mini DIN

2. Make sure that a headphone is not inserted in the headphone jack on the side. If it is, then sound in not connected to the rear ports. It may sound silly, but someone may have connected headphones and nobody realized that they're still connected.

3. Do you have an oscilloscope? If so, then you'll need to insert wires into the 8-pin mini DIN connector for the zone you're using. Using the pinouts from step one for the cable connector will create a mirror at the Bose jack as follows, left to right, top to bottom 3, 2, 1 - 6, (gap) 5, 4 - 8, 7.

Audio comes out at pins 7 and 8. So connect your scope at those points and ground the probe by clipping it to one the RCA shields. Turn the unit on and make sure that you have a source producing signal, such as a disc or a radio station and see if you see signal. The output at these pins appears rather low, so you set your scope sensitive enough.

My Bose produced audio, but also clicking at an increasing frequency and amplitude as the unit heated up, that results in a lot of noise. I verified the wiring and output with this method.

Wiring stereo 1995 BMW 318Ti

HI, you do not need a wiring diagram, do you have a stereo already installed, if it is factory it is probably a baupunkt or a pioneer, although no bmw came with a radio as standard years ago, they where all fitted at the dealers. check for your constant positive with your meter. then find the ignition positive, ie.only on with the ignition, the constant keeps all your programmed channels. earth noemally brown on a bmw. but live in you're house!! green with a yellow tracer or line in your house is earth. then the feed to the electric aerial if you have one, if not forget about it, i think it is grey? then you just need your speakers, they are normally on a totally different plug, if you have 2 plugs thet are din plugs, or deutsch industrie norm. or in english german standard normal. It is a set size or measuremeent, din radio will basically fit into that size of hole in a dashboard.the speakers are normally gery with a black tracer, white with a black racer etc. if you touch these and do not get a shock they are speaker wires, ...only joking, you cannot get a shock from any of them..It should be easy enough to swap over especcially if you are just upgrading to anothr radio. just undoo each speaker with the stereo on to see where thet are located in the car, you cannot do to much damage. if the wires are say grey and grey with a black tracer, if you wire them up black and then grey with black tracer the wrong way around , they will still work, its not like putting the positive to the earth etc, on the radio.I doubt if there is actually a wiring diagram for basic bmw models, except for the 7 series top of the line, in the 80's the radio case for it to fit into was not even in the top of the range 5 series, we had to fit them in, the latest 3 series which had it in the dash came in from germany with a big plastic plate where the radio should be, datsun started fitting radios,as standard roll on nissan....

Din pin wiring

depending on how bad the current plug is what you can do is cut the plug down the middle (about 1/2" from the the tips of the pins) and what that will do is put you inside the plug just behind the solder points on the pins and from there ou should be able to indentify which colored wire went where and then make a diagram on paper. If the plug is not too bad off right now i would cut the cable behind the plug and trace whatever wires are still good to the tips of the pins and write their locations down before cutting the plug. Try to cut the plug as clean as possible using something like a dremel rotary tool works well, you may have to pause in cutting if the plastic starts melting too much do to heat from friction.
