If your Sansa player is freezing, not charging or not turning on, the first thing to try is a reset of the unit. This will normally clear any temporary condition that may cause the player to freeze or not shut off completely, it's a bit like when your PC crashes and you need to re-start it to clear the error. For the Sansa Clip, first try to RESET the player:
1. Slide and hold the Power switch up for approximately 20 seconds. 2. Release the Power switch. 3. To turn the player on, slide the Power switch up then release instantly.
If the player still freezes with the refresh database message, after a reset:

Install the proper USB cable If it still wont work try the following
Install the proper USB cable then Press and hold the Power On button and the Play button (>||) for 20 seconds
All the software and user manual is available from Sandisk's website. You need to download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the website to repair your device.
Go to sandisk.com. Click on downloads. Select sansa clip from the product list, then your operating system. You can get the updated driver and user manual.
it wont completely refresh the data base it freezes half way
